The Marauders drop two on the road to East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Millersville softball dropped both games on the road at East Stroudsburg, struggling to generate consistent offensive momentum. The Marauders were unable to match the Warriors' production at the plate, falling 9-1 in five innings in game one before dropping game two, 6-2.
GAME 1: 1-9 (5 Inn.) (ESU)
The Warriors of East Stroudsburg dictated the pace in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader. Millersville was outhit 11-2 as they dropped game one in five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Action began in the bottom of the second when East Stroudsburg opened the inning with a double off starting pitcher Delaney Troxell. The Warriors followed in the next at-bat with a two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Millersville was unable to respond in the top of the third, and the Warriors extended their lead to six in the bottom half of the inning. A combination of hits and a passed ball allowed East Stroudsburg to score four additional runs.
The Marauders got on the board in the following inning. Carly Vaughan started things off with a double to left field and was joined on base by Jiana Maniscalco, who singled through the right side. Cara Mazzucco brought Vaughan home with a fielder's choice to second base.
Ava Nelson entered in relief in the bottom of the fourth and recorded two quick outs to begin the inning. However, three straight hits by the Warriors resulted in two more runs, extending the lead to eight. A defensive error by the Marauders allowed the ninth run to score.
The offense was unable to generate momentum in the fifth inning as Millersville fell by run rule, 9-1.
GAME 2: 2-6 (ESU)
The Warriors carried their momentum from game one, jumping out to an early lead in game two. Millersville responded in the fourth inning, but East Stroudsburg secured a 6-2 victory with a strong finish.
East Stroudsburg scored first in the opening inning. A single off senior Nicolina Pezzone put a runner on base, who advanced through a series of at-bats before scoring on a wild pitch.
A triple and a home run in the bottom of the second extended the Warriors' lead to 3-0.
Millersville gained momentum in the top of the fourth when Lexi Pickett reached base on an error. Vaughan drove her in with a single to cut the deficit to 3-1. Maniscalco then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Vaughan to score and bring the Marauders within one run.
East Stroudsburg responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-2.
The Warriors added to their lead in the sixth inning. Three straight hits off Pezzone resulted in two runs, increasing the margin to four. Peyton Bechard entered in relief and recorded the final out of the inning.
The Marauders attempted to rally in the seventh inning, as Victoria Fuss and Jocelyn Langer opened with back-to-back hits. However, a pitching change by the Warriors halted Millersville's momentum, and they were unable to score.
Millersville fell 6-2 in game two and will return to action tomorrow at Bloomsburg for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
