SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville softball team's playoff hopes were officially eliminated on Sunday, as they dropped both contests to Shippensburg.
Game 1: 1-4 (Shipp.)
Action remained quiet early, as both starting pitchers held the opposition scoreless through the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Rebecca Opperman recorded two quick outs, but a pair of walks and a single allowed Shippensburg to strike first. Millersville made a pitching change, bringing in Ava Nelson, who surrendered a single in her first at-bat faced, allowing an additional run before ending the inning.
Shippensburg extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth, using three hits to plate two more runs.
Millersville threatened in the top of the sixth, loading the bases as Bryn O'Connor, Lexi Pickett, and Hailey Watlington each reached safely. Carly Vaughan delivered a single to left field to score O'Connor, but consecutive outs left the remaining runners stranded.
The Marauders were unable to build further momentum in the seventh inning, falling 4-1 in game one. Vaughan led the offense with two hits.
Game 2: 2-10 (Ship.) (6 Inn.)
Millersville attempted to shift momentum in game two, placing two runners on base to begin the game. However, back-to-back putouts ended the early scoring opportunity.
Shippensburg took control early, using a home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the second to establish a lead.
Millersville responded in the following inning when Jocelyn Langer singled to center field, setting the stage for Pickett, who hit a home run to left field, her 18th of the season to tie the game.
Shippensburg regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning with consecutive doubles, making the score 3-2. Back-to-back sacrifice flies in the fourth and fifth innings extended the lead to three runs.
A five-run sixth inning by Shippensburg triggered the run rule, as Millersville fell 10-2. Langer led the offense with two hits.
Millersville will conclude the 2026 season on Friday with a doubleheader at Kutztown before returning home on Saturday to face Shepherd in the season finale.
