The 2017 PSAC East Athlete of the Year, Brittany Smith set a new standard for hitting with Millersville softball, establishing program records and earning a pair of All-PSAC East honors.
From 2014-17, Smith set Millersville records for hits, RBIs and home runs and graduated with a .349 batting average. She hit over .300 in three of her four seasons, drove in 35 or more runs twice and totaled 204 hits in 189 games. Her incredible senior season of 2017 saw her hit at a .443 clip, pacing the PSAC in regular season hits while finishing in the top 10 in average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and RBIs. That performance made Smith Millersville's first PSAC East Athlete of the Year. Smith started all 49 of the team’s games and totaled 70 hits, setting a Millersville record.
Smith earned the first of two All-PSAC East First Team honors as a junior in 2016. That season, she led the Marauders in hitting, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases while taking the team to its first-ever PSAC Tournament appearance. She sparked the team with a 15-game hitting streak to close the regular season.
Smith is one of only two hitters in program history with at least 200 career hits, and she ranks in the top 10 in career RBIs, doubles, triples, batting average and slugging percentage. Not only was she an outstanding hitter, but Smith also fielded her position exceptionally. As the team’s first baseman, Smith set a program record for putouts in a career and in a season. She owns three of the top eight single season putout marks while recording a sparkling career fielding percentage of .986—a mark that still ranks fifth all-time.
An outstanding student, Smith was a four-time PSAC and NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, and in 2017, she became the first Millersville softball player since 1985 to be a CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree.
After graduation, Smith earned a master’s degree as a reading specialist. She currently works as a special education teacher at Spring Ridge Elementary.
