MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville softball program closed out its 2026 season Saturday afternoon, hosting the Shepherd Rams. A strong start in game one faded as Millersville struggled to generate offensive momentum late. The Marauders jumped ahead early in game two, but the game slipped away in the fifth and sixth innings as they finished the season with a pair of losses.
Game 1: 2-4 (SHEP.)
The regular-season finale opened with action from both sides. Shepherd struck first in the top of the first inning off a pair of hits that produced the Rams' opening run.
Millersville responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Jocelyn Langer and Hailey Watlington reached second and third on back-to-back hits. A wild pitch allowed Langer to score, and Watlington later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Carly Vaughan, giving Millersville a 2-1 lead after one inning.
The second inning proved decisive. Three straight hits allowed Shepherd to tie the game, and two additional hits along with a sacrifice fly pushed the Rams ahead 4-2.
From there, it became a pitching duel. Nicolina Pezzone settled in and held Shepherd scoreless over the remaining innings. Millersville threatened in the seventh, but the rally fell short as Shepherd secured the 4-2 win. Vaughan led the Marauders offensively with two hits.
Game 2: 3-9 (SHEP.)
The Marauders came out strong in game two, taking an early lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Lexi Pickett.
Millersville added another run in the second inning. Senior Allyson Black led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, before moving to third following a sacrifice bunt by Cecilia McBeth, and scored on a wild pitch.
Shepherd tied the game in the top of the third, using three hits and an error to even the score at 2-2.
The Rams took control in the fifth inning, tallying four runs on four hits and an error. Millersville answered with a run in the bottom half, as Watlington delivered an RBI single to score Cameron Witte.
Shepherd added three more runs in the sixth inning on a double and a home run, extending the lead to 9-3. The Marauders were unable to respond, dropping their final game of the season.
Head coach Jen Probst reflected on her seniors following the game: "My message to the five seniors is simple: thank you for everything you gave to this program. You showed up, you bought in, and you left this place better than you found it. The standard you set—through your work ethic, leadership, and commitment—will carry on long after you're gone. I'm proud of who you've become, not just as players, but as people. Once a Marauder, always a Marauder."
