Marauders earn split with Lock Haven behind Watlington, Mazzucco home runs

GAME 1: 1-12 (LOCK HAVEN)
The opening game proved difficult for Millersville. Despite early flashes in the first inning, defensive miscues limited the Marauders' ability to compete.
Lock Haven jumped out to an early lead after a pair of hits put two runners on base. A sacrifice fly brought home the first run of the game.
Millersville answered in the bottom half of the inning as Lexi Pickett led off with a double, followed by another double from freshman Jaylee Lose down the right-field line to tie the game at 1-1 after one inning.
The second inning shifted momentum in favor of Lock Haven. Starting pitcher Delaney Troxell surrendered back-to-back home runs to open the frame, followed by additional hits that extended the lead to 5-1.
Millersville threatened in the bottom of the second when Jiana Maniscalco, Cameron Witte, and Cecilia McBeth loaded the bases. However, the Marauders were unable to capitalize, as a groundout to third ended the inning.
Lock Haven added another run in the third inning with its third home run of the game, increasing the lead to 6-1.
Ava Nelson entered in relief and held Lock Haven scoreless in the fourth inning. However, defensive struggles resurfaced in the fifth. Four errors combined with two hits led to six runs for the Bald Eagles, putting Millersville in run-rule territory. The Marauders were unable to respond in the bottom half, resulting in a 12-1 loss.
GAME 2: 13-8 (VILLE)
Game two began similarly, with Lock Haven striking early. Rebecca Opperman got the start but exited in the first inning after allowing two runs. Peyton Bechard entered in relief, but a combination of an error and three consecutive singles extended the lead to 6-0 after the first inning.Lock Haven added another run in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Millersville began to find its rhythm offensively in the bottom of the second. Carly Vaughan and Maniscalco reached base before Hailey Watlington drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Witte followed with an RBI double to left-center field, cutting the deficit to five runs.
Troxell returned to the circle in the third inning and provided stability, allowing the offense to build momentum. McBeth led off the inning with a double, followed by a single from Pickett. Lose delivered a two-run double to make the score 7-4. After Vaughan and Maniscalco reached base to load the bases, Watlington hit a three-run home run to tie the game.

Troxell held Lock Haven scoreless in the fourth inning, and Millersville took its first lead in the bottom half. McBeth recorded her second double of the game, and Lose drove her in with a single to right field.

In the fifth inning, Maniscalco scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 9-7.
Millersville added insurance in the sixth inning as four batters reached base. Cara Mazzucco highlighted the inning with a grand slam, pushing the lead to six runs.
"Hailey and Cara did exactly what they needed to do in pressure situations, stayed calm and confident while trusting their preparation." said head coach Jen Probst
Lock Haven added one run in the seventh, but Troxell closed out the game to secure the victory. She finished the day with both a win and a loss. McBeth and Lose led the offense in game two with three hits each.
"We know the kind of defensive team we're capable of being, so it's about resetting, focusing on fundamentals and staying locked in defensively every pitch." said Probst.
Millersville returns to action tomorrow as it hosts Mansfield for another PSAC doubleheader.
