Marauders battle throughout but drop two to Shippensburg

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Millersville Marauders received multi-hit outings from a group of hitters but it wasn't enough, as the visiting Shippensburg Raiders took both games of the doubleheader by scores of 10–9 and 9–5. Carly Vaughan and Victoria Fuss had four hits on the day, Jiana Maniscalco had three and Angelina Edwards had two. That quartet also accounted for 10 of the team's 12 total runs batted in (RBI) on the day.
"I thought we competed hard," Millersville head coach Jen Probst said postgame. "The bats came back alive today, which was a great thing to see."
Millersville's offensive success revolved around its patient approach at the plate. The Marauders worked seven walks in game one and forced the Raider staff to throw 208 pitches in nine innings. Four of those free passes came around to score. Fuss and Edwards accounted for all four of their team's extra-base hits with two doubles apiece. That duo smacked two-RBI doubles in the bottom of the seventh as part of a five-run comeback that sent the game to extras. They also belted a pair of two-baggers in the ninth that cut the deficit to one, but the hosts would creep no closer. In all, Fuss finished three-for-four with two doubles, four RBI and a walk, while Edwards had two doubles, three RBI and a run scored.
Vaughan tallied two knocks in the first game and added two more in the second along with two RBI. Maniscalco had two hits in game two as well, but the star was Allyson Black, who went two-for-two with a double, two RBI and a walk in her three trips to the dish. Jocelyn Langer recorded a hit in both contests to extend her on-base streak to 42 games. The freshman's gotten on base in every single game of her career so far except for the first two.
It was the 'Ville's eighth extra-inning affair of the season, and their seventh since entering conference play on March 18, a span of 24 games. They have already doubled last year's total of four extra-inning games with eight left to play.
The Marauders return to action when they travel to No. 9 East Stroudsburg on April 18. Those contests are slated to begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
