West Chester ends Marauders’ season with a sweep


WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team concluded its 2019 regular season with two losses at West Chester. The Golden Rams scored six runs in the sixth inning of game one, pushing away from the Marauders for a 9-2 win. In the second game, the Marauders came back with a last chance opportunity in the seventh but West Chester held them within two runs for the 6-4 triumph.

The Golden Rams clinched the top spot of the PSAC East, giving them one of the three No. 1 seeds in next week's PSAC Tournament. The Marauders finished the 2019 season with a record of 20-31 (3-13 PSAC East) record. Millersville ended the season on a six-game losing streak.

On the final day of the regular season, Little ended on a positive note going 3-for-7 with a home run in game one.

GAME ONE RECAP (WEST CHESTER 9, MILLERSVILLE 2)
• Millersville and West Chester were tied 1-1 through the middle of the second inning. Hunter Little provided the first Marauders' run off a home run to left center. The Golden Rams scored two in the bottom half of the inning. 
• In the top of the fifth, Allie Janowiak knocked a single through the left side with runners on the corners, bringing home Paige Harris from third.
• The Marauders kept close with the Golden Rams for the next two innings before West Chester exploded for six runs in the sixth inning.
• Harris earned her first complete game of the year. Harris allowed nine hits, nine runs and struck out four batters. West Chester's Reilly Gearhart had the Marauders' number again, striking out seven batters and only allowing three hits through the first five innings.

GAME TWO RECAP (WEST CHESTER 6, MILLERSVILLE 4)
Brianna Battavio broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second with a two-run home run. But in the next half inning, Jaime Klemas knocked her own home run out of the park, cutting the Marauders lead to 2-1. West Chester scored three runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-2 lead. 
• In the bottom of the fifth, West Chester extended its lead to a four after Heider McCollester and Courtney Stump drove in one run each.
Hunter Little doubled to center to cut the deficit to two in the seventh, but that was it for the Marauders. 
• Battavio and Little both recorded two hits and two RBIs. 
Emma Bevard threw the first 2 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, four runs and struck out one batter. Catherine Johnson entered in the second inning and then finished the contest, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four batters.

• "This year was full of ups and downs. Next year we will be putting a major focus on finding consistency and building on it."
• "I am really proud of the way Hunter finished the season at the plate."
• "Not only did Murph get her 100th career hit, but it was a bomb off the fense. I loved her effort today and the last four years."
• "Paige had a strong finish to the season. She was really hitting spots and responded well under pressure."

NOTES
• In the final game of the season, Maggie Murphy and Janowiak registered their 100th career hit mark.
• The Marauders recorded eight hits in game two compared to three in the first game.
• West Chester has swept the last three season series with Millersville.
• Little hit her eighth homer while Battavio recorded her seventh.
