Shippensburg sweeps Marauders on Senior Day

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University Raiders out-hit the Millersville University softball team on a windy Saturday afternoonfor an 11-5 victory in game one and scored six runs in the second en route to a 10-3 win in game. 

The Raiders completed the season sweep of the Marauders. Shippensburg improved its conference record to 9-5 and is now tied in first in the PSAC East standings with West Chester. The Marauders drop to 20-29 (3-11 PSAC East).

Faith Willenbrock finished the day 4-for-7 with three hits in game one.

GAME ONE RECAP (SHIPPENSBURG 11, MILLERSVILLE 5)
• Shippensburg took a 7-1 lead after two innings. Brianna Battavio hit a solo home run in the top of the third. 
• The Raiders increased their lead in the fourth, scoring four for an 11-2 cushion. 
• The Marauders avoided the mercy limit with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Alexis Staniec doubled to put runners on second and third. Allie Janowiak singled in two to right field. In the same inning, Maggie Murphy drew a bases-loaded walk. Both pitchers kept their opponents scoreless for the final three innings.
• Shippensburg's pitcher Taryn Wilson recorded a total of 10 strikeouts. The Marauders used three pitchers: Catherine Johnson, Emma Bevard and Paige Harris.

GAME TWO RECAP (SHIPPENSBURG 10, MILLERSVILLE 3)
• Tressa Kagarise struck out the first six batters. The Raiders scored six runs in the second for a 6-0 lead. 
• Willenbrock's RBI double to right got the Marauders on the board in the fourth. Allie Janowiak followed in the fifth inning with an RBI single and then scored off a wild pitch later in the inning. Janowiak brought the deficit to 6-3. 
• The Raiders did not let the Marauders back into the game as Shippensburg added three runs in the sixth, featuring a Morgan Fetter home run.
• Kagarise finished the game with 15 strikeouts and six allowed hits in her 10th complete game of the year. Paige Harris threw 3 2/3 innings while allowing no runs and three hits. Brianna White got the loss.

• "Faith always swings big, each at bat she's a threat to drive the ball."
• "We didn't give up and had some great at-bats throughout the game."
• "Murphy's commitment and dedication to this program and her academics has been a highlight of the last four years. I'm so proud of her and all she has accomplished."

NOTES
• Murphy is one hit shy of her 100th career hit after one today. Prior to the doubleheader, Millersville recognized Murphy as the lone senior.
• The Raiders totaled 21 runs on the day--the most Millersville has given up against Shippensburg since 2009.
