Buckhannon, W. Va. -- The Marauders earned their third road win of the season after defeating West Virginia Wesleyan College 3-2 Saturday. The team improved their winning streak to four straight games and are unbeaten in five straight games.
The Marauders and the Bobcats's offenses went back and forth during the first half of the game. Millersville struck first in the sixth minute when senior Marcus Frangakis dribbled past multiple defenders and blasted his attempt past the goalie. It took 21 minutes for the Bobcats's response and they took advantage of a through ball that made it past the Millersville back line. Millersville took back the lead in the 32nd minute when junior Dylan Fogerty assisted junior Chase Flickinger's goal in front of the net. WVW equalized again in the waning moments of the first half, and both teams entered the locker room tied 2-2.
The Marauders out shot the Bobcats 6-5 during the first half while the Bobcats earned one corner kick while Millersville did not. The Marauders produced two shots on goal in addition to their two goals while the Bobcats's only attempts on goal made it in the net.
The second half opened quietly and both teams only compiled a couple of attempts on goal in the first 17 minutes. In the 72nd minute, senior Kody Eberly fed his assist to sophomore Jacob Gosselin and Gosselin's shot put the Marauders on top of the Bobcats. The score held for the remaining 18 minutes and the Marauders walked off the field victorious.
The Bobcats out shot the Marauders 6-4 in the second half while earning three corner kicks but couldn't earn a third equalizing goal. The Marauders fouled the Bobcats 16 times while the Bobcats committed five fouls. However, the Marauders, unlike the Bobcats, avoided drawing any yellow cards from the referee's pocket.
The Marauders return to Pucillo Field to play only their second home game of the season and their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent of the season. Millersville hosts conference rival Seton Hill Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the second leg of Millersville's doubleheader with the Griffins. The women's soccer team take on Seton Hill Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.
