MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville University soccer team lost to East Stroudsburg 1-0 on Wednesday. The Marauders generated 11 of their 13 shots in the second half but were held without a goal, putting three shots on frame.
The Marauders were nearly even with East Stroudsburg in overall shot volume, finishing with 13 shots to East Stroudsburg's 14 while putting three on frame compared with two for the visitors. The Marauders' best supported attacking spell came in a stretch with five shots and two corner kicks, but that push did not result in a finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marauders kept East Stroudsburg off the board in the first half despite an early stretch that included three East Stroudsburg corner kicks and two shots. Louis Wright put the Marauders' shot on goal early, and Matias Schmidt added a shot after a corner. The half ended scoreless after a late physical stretch that included four 'Ville fouls and a yellow card to Kehmar Green.
The Marauders conceded the only goal of the second half on Owen Rennie's late penalty kick in the final two minutes, and East Stroudsburg finished off the 1-0 result. Earlier, the Marauders generated a sustained push with five shots and two corner kicks late in the second half while the match remained 0-0, including a saved shot by Drew Jones.
"ESU has done a very good job of limiting our opportunities in all three games and credit to them for that. They get numbers behind the ball and are committed to keeping the ball out of the net." said head coach Steve Widdowson. "However, we also need to do better and today we just weren't efficient enough over the 90 mins. There were so many simple things that were not done well enough and they add up. Just simple passes, touches out of our feet or getting shots on target. These basics were not clean enough today and it caught up with us. However, it's been a great season and I am proud of everything we accomplished. Now we keep our fingers crossed about making the NCAA tournament and look to go again if we get that reward for our seasons efforts."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
