BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville University men's soccer team outshot Bloomsburg 13-12 but lost 2-1 Saturday. The Marauders put five shots on goal to Bloomsburg's four but were held scoreless after Juan Ortiz Escobar opened the scoring in the first half.
The Marauders generated separate three-shot stretches that included corner-kick opportunities, including one while trailing. Bloomsburg recorded four saves to 'Ville's two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ortiz Escobar opened the scoring for the Marauders in the first half, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Bloomsburg pulled even later in the half on Julian Dix's goal off Alexander Hess' assist, and the Marauders followed with a corner kick and shots by NiCK Woodfill and Haven Thomas before halftime. The half ended tied 1-1.
The Marauders pressed for an equalizer after Bloomsburg went ahead 2-1 in the second half, producing three shots and a corner but not scoring. Earlier, with the match tied 1-1, 'Ville generated three shots and two corners, including Drew Jones shot on goal saved by Drew Offenberg. Bloomsburg's second-half goal stood, and the Marauders fell 2-1.
"It's nothing to do with strategies. It simply comes down to showing a greater passion and desire on the field." stated head coach Steve Widdowson. "This was the second game in a row where the opposing team won far more battles than we did and they were prepared to scrap and fight for a result. We need to find those qualities within ourselves ahead of the next game if we want to return to winning ways."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Ortiz Escobar scored the Marauders' lone goalÂ
• Louis Wright led the team with three shot attempts
• Gavin Massimi made two saves in goal
