GAME NOTES
• After over two weeks away from home, the Millersville softball team returns home Saturday to host Clarion. The Marauders played eight spring break games, winning two of its las four in Florida. The Marauders traveled to Shepherd Tuesday where they split the doubleheader with the Rams (5-4, 4-13).
• Senior Brittany Smith is closing in on various program records. The first baseman is tied with Jordan Sheffield all-time with 14 home runs in her Marauder career after smashing a dinger against Merrimack. Smith also ranks second in career RBIs with 89 and seventh with 157 hits.
• Teammate and fellow senior Heather Lutz ranks just behind Smith in career slugging percentage (.471) and is tied for tenth all time with 83 runs scored.
• As a team, the Marauders are batting .291 with 68 runs batted in while opponents are hitting .335 with 86 RBIs.
• Cassidy Pinchorski, Emma Bevard and Paige Harris have been the three main hurlers for Millersville with Pinchorski and Bevard appearing in 12 and 11 games respectively. Against Shepherd, the tandem combined for the win and save as Pinchorski pitched into the last inning when Bevard came on to close out the 5-4 victory.
SERIES HISTORY
• Millersville and Clarion have met sporadically over the years, but the matchups tend to be close. The first ever matchup went to the Golden Eagles in 1983 as they edged out the Marauders 1-0. In 2016 when the two sides met in Myrtle Beach, Kelsey Campbell reached base and scored in the second inning, and neither team would score the rest of the way as Millersville took the game 1-0.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
• Clarion has struggled to start the 2017 season, posting just one win to this point (1-17). Cassie Daniels is the lone Golden Eagle hitting above .300 (.313) with 10 hits, six runs and one RBI. A pair of Clarion players have five RBI's apiece but are both batting below .200 on the season.
• The lone win of the season came against Bluefield State College in which they exploded for 17 runs.
• The Golden Eagles will travel to Philadelphia to play a doubleheader against USciences before heading to Millersville Saturday for the double-dip.
