GAME OVERVIEW
• After a successful home opener Thursday, the Millersville men's soccer team returns to the pitch Sunday to host West Virginia Wesleyan. Despite a slow start in the first half, the Marauders found the back of the net twice to defeat Chowan 2-0 to begin the 2016 season.
• It was the freshmen who stepped up to lead the Marauders to a first-game victory. Jacob Gosselin made his impact felt in the 76th minute, scoring the first goal of the year for Millersville. Just nine minutes later, fellow freshman Ethan Woods lifted the Marauders to a 2-0 lead.
• Fellow freshman Darian McCauley registered six saves to earn a shutout in his first collegiate start.
ABOUT THE SERIES
• The Marauders and Bobcats have faced off eight times with Millersville holding a 3-2-3 edge in the overall series. All eight matchups have come since 2008 with last year's contest ending in a 0-0 draw.
THE LAST MEETING: MILLERSVILLE 0, WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN 0 (Sept. 6, 2015)
• The two sides met just a year ago with identical records. The Marauders and Bobcats battled to an overtime tie in 2015 as both totaled double-digit shots. After finishing regulation scoreless, Millersville threatened multiple times in the first overtime but were unable to convert.
• In the second overtime, it was West Virginia Wesleyan who controlled the pace, but Kohl Orner and the Marauders would not give up a goal. Marcus Frangakis, Ahmed Qaisi and Chase Flickinger all had opportunities on net in the 2015 contest, but none could convert.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• The Bobcats fell to Millersville's PSAC rival California (Pa.) in their home opener, 2-1. Wesleyan fell behind early before Jens Demul converted a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. The two sides remained deadlocked until the 71st minute when California's Eric Campbell put the Vulcans in front 2-1.
• Six different Bobcats tallied a shot on goal against the Vulcans, with Demul and Juwon Akintunde both having two chances on net.
