Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville softball team's bats were held scoreless on Thursday afternoon before coming alive in the nightcap of the doubleheader with Shepherd as the teams split with scores of 13-0 and 6-4 at Millersville Softball Field.
In game one, the Rams had Brianna Andraos solved at the plate as the senior gave up a career-high 18 hits in the 13-0 loss. Shepherd got it going in the top of the first with three-straight hits including a two run single off of the bat of Kaitlin Munda.
Andraos rolled through the second and third innings, before giving up an unearned run in the fourth inning. The Rams chased the senior from the game in the top of the sixth as they combined for eight-straight hits within the inning that plated six more runs in the inning.
The Marauders best chance of getting on the board came in the bottom of the fifth when Megan Hallock and Mandy Hammond reached base on a pair of singles. However, Tara Hanson worked her way out of the jam by forcing a Brittany Smith lineout.
Game two saw a scoreless tie after the first frame, but once again Shepherd scored first in the top of the second when Kaitlin Munda homered to right field. The Marauders would tie the score up at two apiece in the third inning when Brittany Smith doubled home teammates Mandy Hammond and Heather Lutz.
Cassidy Pinchorski (6-2) helped out her own cause in the bottom of the fourth when she crushed a homerun to left field. Smith added an RBI in the inning when she sent a grounder up the middle. Cleanup hitter Kelsey Campbell followed it up with a single of her own that gave the Marauders a 5-3 lead.
Shepherd cut into the deficit in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Marauders added an insurance run in the sixth frame preserving the 6-4 victory. Pinchorski scattered five hits across seven strong innings and also struck out three hitters.
The Marauders improved to 10-8 and will enter PSAC play this weekend when they travel to Bloomsburg for a doubleheader. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
