Parkyn’s 81st-minute PK sends Marauders past Bloomsburg

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -Â The Millersville men's soccer team triumphed over Bloomsburg 3-2 on Saturday. Roy Parkyn scored in the 81st minute to break a 2-2 tie and put the Marauders in front late.
Parkyn's late penalty-kick goal broke a 2-2 tie and stood as the game-winner after the Marauders had kept Bloomsburg off the board during a tied stretch that included three shots and three corner kicks for the visitors. Bloomsburg finished with advantages in shots, 12-10, and shots on goal, 7-5, while Gavin Massimi made five saves for the Marauders.
The Marauders outshot Bloomsburg 6-2 in the first half and put four attempts on goal, with Zander Leik scoring off a Kehmar Green assist before Green added his first collegiate goal. Bloomsburg generated three corner kicks and scored through Julian Dix in the 37th minute, but the Marauders carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Bloomsburg generated a 10-4 shot advantage in the second half and put four attempts on frame that Massimi saved, but 'Ville matched the visitors 1-1 in scoring for the half. After Bloomsburg tied the match at 2-2 early in the half, Parkyn converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute to give the Marauders a 3-2 lead they carried to the finish.
"We started really well and put ourselves in a great position, then let ourselves down in a few moments to allow bloom back into the game." said head coach Steve Widdowson. "Then to their credit, they took control of the game and had us on the back foot, but we kept plugging away, made a little tactical adjustment and found a way to get a result in some tough conditions. The guys kept working hard and eventually earned a really important 3 points."
