GAME 1: 8-10 (WCU)
West Chester struck first in the opening inning with three hits that produced two runs.
Millersville responded in the bottom half of the first with a single by Carly Vaughan that scored Jocelyn Langer from third to make it a one-run game.
The Golden Rams continued to add on in the second and third innings, combining for five hits that resulted in eight runs and pushed the lead to nine.
The Marauders began to claw back in the fourth inning. Cameron Witte opened the inning with a double and advanced an additional base on a ball that got between the outfielder's legs. Lexi Pickett hit a sacrifice fly to score Witte from third, and Cara Mazzucco followed with a solo home run to cut the deficit to six.
Millersville continued to chip away in the fifth inning after loading the bases on a hit, a walk, and an error. Hailey Watlington entered as a pinch hitter and delivered a grand slam to cut the lead to 10-8.
The momentum stalled, however, as the Marauders were unable to score in the final two innings. Witte led the offense with three hits in five at-bats.
GAME 2: 6-7 (WCU)
Millersville jumped out to an early lead in game two with a leadoff home run by Witte.
The Golden Rams answered in the top of the second with a solo home run to tie the game.
Millersville regained the lead in the bottom of the second. Jiana Maniscalco delivered a single that scored Watlington, and Witte followed with a hit that brought in Victoria Fuss.
West Chester responded again in the top of the third, using three hits to tie the game at three. The Golden Rams took the lead in the fifth inning with back-to-back hits that produced a run to make it 4-3.
West Chester added to its lead in the sixth, combining four hits for three runs. Millersville then turned to Rebecca Opperman in relief of Delaney Troxell. Opperman needed just one pitch to end the inning and went on to hold West Chester scoreless in the seventh.
Millersville mounted a rally in the seventh inning, beginning with a leadoff single by Langer. Vaughan reached after being hit by a pitch. Mazzucco cleared the bases with a double to cut the deficit to two. Watlington followed with a single that scored Mazzucco from third, making it a one-run game. However, the rally fell short as the Marauders recorded their final out.
Millersville returns to action Thursday for a nonconference doubleheader against Holy Family, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
