Game 1: 8-6 (VILLE)
Nicolina Pezzone started in the circle for Millersville in game one. The senior retired the side in order to begin the game and finished with four innings pitched, recording five strikeouts while allowing six earned runs.
Senior Victoria Fuss got things rolling in the bottom of the first with a single to left field. Carly Vaughan followed with a two-run blast to put Millersville on the board first. One home run was not enough for the Marauders, as freshman Jordyn Skarren added a solo shot to dead center to extend the lead to three runs.
Millersville struck again in the bottom of the second as shortstop Cecilia McBeth singled to bring Bryn O'Connor across the plate and make it 4-0.
Goldey-Beacom found its rhythm in the fourth inning, pushing a run across on a single and tying the game after a double drove in three runs. The Lightning took the lead in the fifth inning when a single and a wild pitch allowed two additional runs to score, making it 6-4.
Skarren took the reins in the circle for the final two innings and prevented any further damage. She carried that momentum to the offensive side with a sacrifice fly that made it a one-run game.
"Jordyn picked up where she left off in the fall," said head coach Jen Probst. "She has a great mindset, and it's really helping her play loose and make adjustments."
Senior Hailey Watlington pushed the Marauders back ahead with a two RBI single to give Millersville a one-run lead. Cameron Witte added an RBI single to score Allyson Black and extend the advantage. Skarren closed out the game in the top of the seventh to claim her first collegiate victory. Cara Mazzucco, McBeth, and Black led the offense with two hits apiece as Millersville secured the 8-6 win in game one.
"We had excellent production off the bench offensively and in the circle," Probst stated. "They came in, did their jobs, and were the catalyst for the comeback."
Game 2: 6-0 (VILLE)
Game two belonged entirely to Millersville. Mazzucco opened the bottom of the first with a solo home run, and Skarren followed shortly after with her second home run of the day to make it a two-run game. Freshman Jaylee Lose extended the lead to three with an RBI single that scored Vaughan.
Millersville added runs in the second and third innings following RBIs from Skarren and O'Connor, increasing the lead to 5–0. Delaney Troxell had an impressive outing in her first appearance, pitching five innings and recording four strikeouts. Ava Nelson and Peyton Bechard each pitched one inning in relief, with both recording two strikeouts.
The Marauders added their final run in the sixth inning when sophomore Lexi Pickett delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to six runs. Bechard closed out the game in the seventh inning to secure the sweep for Millersville. McBeth, Vaughan, and O'Connor led the way offensively.
Millersville returns to action on March 4 as the Marauders travel to Philadelphia to face Jefferson before heading out for their spring break trip.
