Bats silent as Millersville drops two to Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Raiders pitching owned the day as the Millersville Marauders dropped both ends of their conference doubleheader in Shippensburg by scores of 6–1 and 4–0 Tuesday afternoon. Despite the loss, freshman phenom Jocelyn Langer extended her hitting streak to seven games and her on-base streak to 24.
The visitors brought home a run on an error in the day's first inning of play but were shutout by Raider hurlers Alicia Ball and Dani Hayward over the next 13 frames. Of the 10 hits they mustered, only Cara Mazzucco's game two double went for extra bases. It's the first time the Marauders have been shutout all season and their first 0–2 day since the season opener on Feb. 7 at Goldey-Beacom.
Hailey Watlington, Carly Vaughan, Mazzucco and Langer each had a hit in both games, and that quartet was responsible for nine of the team's 10 total base knocks. Langer had two singles and a walk to reach base safely in all three of her game two plate appearances.
In the circle, the Marauders received quality outings from Angelina Saverase and Delaney Troxell. Saverase went 4.1 innings and allowed three runs in game one and Troxell tossed four frames in the nightcap while also giving up three runs. Shippensburg's Ball was dominant throughout the Raiders' 6–1 victory, going the distance and striking out seven batters. Freshman Hayward one-upped her teammate, tossing her first career complete-game shutout and punching out nine Marauders.
The last time Millersville softball was shutout in a game was a 6–0 loss to 2024 Division II Freshman of the Year Sarah Davenport and the East Stroudsburg Warriors on April 9, 2024. That's who the Marauders host in their next trip to the diamond on March 28; game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m. while game two will start following the conclusion of game one.
