Softball drops doubleheader to ESU

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville softball team dropped both legs of Tuesday's doubleheader to East Stroudsburg at Seaber Softball Stadium. The Warriors took game one by a score of 9-3 before winning game two, 11-7.

Despite the sweep, Aleese Angelo tied the Millersville single-season doubles record with 19. Angelo is tied with Heather Lutz who set the record in 2014. The junior also ranks second in single-season extra-base hits with 29, one behind Faith Willenbrock for the program record.

The Marauders fell to 23-21 overall, 10-12 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play. ESU improved to 31-12 overall and 19-6 in conference play.

The start of game one was all East Stroudsburg as the visitors outscored Millersville 5-0 in the first two innings. The Marauders would score a run in both the third and fourth, courtesy of an Angelo RBI and ESU error; however, the Warriors would outscore 'Ville 4-1 in the final three innings to clinch the six-run win.

Game two featured tons of early offense for fans in attendance as each team saw six players cross home in the first two innings. 'Ville scored its first-inning runs off a two-RBI single from Allyson Black that drove in Sami Fried and Kendra Bumgardner. The Marauder runs in the second came from an Angelo sacrifice fly and a Gabby D'Ottavio three-run homer to right center.

East Stroudsburg would outscore Millersville 5-1 in the final three innings to leave with the sweep.
