MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville softball team dropped both legs of Tuesday's doubleheader to East Stroudsburg at Seaber Softball Stadium. The Warriors took game one by a score of 9-3 before winning game two, 11-7.
Despite the sweep,
Aleese Angelo tied the Millersville single-season doubles record with 19. Angelo is tied with Heather Lutz who set the record in 2014. The junior also ranks second in single-season extra-base hits with 29, one behind Faith Willenbrock for the program record.
The Marauders fell to 23-21 overall, 10-12 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play. ESU improved to 31-12 overall and 19-6 in conference play.
The start of game one was all East Stroudsburg as the visitors outscored Millersville 5-0 in the first two innings. The Marauders would score a run in both the third and fourth, courtesy of an Angelo RBI and ESU error; however, the Warriors would outscore 'Ville 4-1 in the final three innings to clinch the six-run win. Â
Game two featured tons of early offense for fans in attendance as each team saw six players cross home in the first two innings. 'Ville scored its first-inning runs off a two-RBI single from
Allyson Black that drove in Sami Fried and
Kendra Bumgardner. The Marauder runs in the second came from an Angelo sacrifice fly and a
Gabby D'Ottavio three-run homer to right center.
East Stroudsburg would outscore Millersville 5-1 in the final three innings to leave with the sweep.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Angelo, Fried and Gabi Turner each had two hits in game one.
- Bumgardner went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double in game two.
- Fried recorded a pair of walks in the second game.
- D'Ottavio's homerun is the Marauders' 30th this season, which leads the PSAC.
- Alex Schaefer received the game-one loss (15-10), while Morgan Crutcher fell in game two (5-9).
