Kutztown completes season series sweep of Marauders

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team claimed the season series sweep over the Millersville University Marauders on Monday afternoon at North Campus Field. Kutztown scored three runs in its final two innings of game one, securing an 8-2 victory. The Golden Bears completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout in game two.

After the two loses today, the Golden Bears eliminated the Marauders from PSAC Tournament contention.

The Marauders drop to 3-9 in conference play and 20-27 on the year. Kutztown currently sits in third with an overall record of 31-16, the most wins in the conference.

GAME ONE RECAP (KUTZTOWN 8, MILLERSVILLE 2)
• Rebecca Blatt put the Marauders on the scoreboard first with a two-run hit in the top of the second. Kutztown narrowed the Millersville lead to one in the bottom of the second off a Taylor Knappenberger RBI double. Millersville held the 2-1 lead until the bottom of the fourth.
• The Golden Bears tied the game up at 2-2 coming off a Catherine Johnson wild pitch in the fourth inning that scored one.
• In the bottom of the fifth, Dani Nordyk and Hannah Auvil recorded back-to-back doubles that brought in three runs, giving Kutztown a 5-2 lead with two innings left. Kutztown tacked on an additional three runs onto its lead in the bottom of the sixth, securing the game one victory.
• Johnson received the starting nod and threw 4 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits. Emma Bevard closed the game out in the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing the final three runs and three hits.

GAME TWO RECAP (KUTZTOWN 4, MILLERSVILLE 0)
• Bridget Bailey blanked the Marauders by striking out 13 batters and only allowing two hits throughout the entire game. Bailey improved to 14-5 on the year and recorded her third shutout.
• The Golden Bears took control early, scoring one run in each of the first two innings. The squad produced the final two runs in the fourth inning.
• Millersville's pitching was led by Brianna White who gave up four runs and eight hits through six innings pitched.

WHAT HEAD COACH JEN PROBST SAYS
• "Although we are not seeing the results we wanted this year, the players are still willing to learn and get better for the future."
• "Devan had great timing in the box today, recording two hits."
• "[Our pitching staff] gave them some runs today with wild pitches. We were able to keep some of their strongest hitters off balance but the result did not go our way today."

NOTES
• Kutztown outscored Millersville 22-4 in the season series. 
• Masciulli extended her hitting streak to four games, needing one more to tie for longest this season.
• White earned her second complete game of the season.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders take their final road trip of the season on Friday, April 27 to West Chester for another PSAC East doubleheader. First pitch is at 2:30 p.m.
