Clermont, Fla. – The Millersville University softball team battled back from a four-run deficit to claim the 7-4 victory over Bemidji State in Tuesday's early game. In the second game, Millersville lost 4-1 against Wayne State.
This is the first time Bemidji State and Millersville has ever met in program history.
Leading the offensive numbers today, freshman Faith Willenbrock went 4 for 7, driving in three runs with a double and a home run. Willenbrock leads the team with a .556 batting average and a .541 on-base percentage.
The Marauders improved to 8-3.
VS. BEMIDJI STATE
Millersville was down 4-0 in the top of the fourth but began its comeback when Nicole Burke hit a liner to the first baseman with bases loaded. The first baseman tried to fire a throw home to get the runner out but threw it high and two runners scored.
A bomb to left fielder from Willenbrock knotted the score at 4-4 in the fifth. It was her fourth home run of the season.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore Rebecca Blatt and Willenbrock both doubled, driving in a total of three runs and giving Millersville its first lead of the game.
The Marauders kept Bemidji State scoreless after the top of the third inning.
Freshman Brianna White was pulled in the top of the third inning for sophomore Emma Bevard. Bevard finished the game with five innings pitched, one run allowed and four hits. Bevard earned her third win of the season.
VS. WAYNE STATE
The Warriors built a 3-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Wayne State extended its lead with a Emma Adam's double to left center scoring Ashley Messina.
Sophomore Rebecca Blatt brought in Millersville's lone run with a bases-loaded walk, bringing home sophomore Ally Kerr.
The Marauders' mistakes in the field did not help them. They totaled four errors while totaling six hits.
Freshman Catherine Johnson pitched her first complete game by a Marauder this season by allowing six hits and walking one. Johnson's record dropped to 2-2.
