No. 9 Millersville rebounds against California (Pa.)

Millersville, Pa. -- Senior Ahmed Qaisi and freshman Matteo Adiletta netted goals as No. 9 Millersville rebounded from its loss earlier this week at Lock Haven and beat conference rival California (Pa.) 2-0 at Pucillo Field Saturday.
After California recorded two shots on goal in the opening 12 minutes, junior Chase Flickinger crossed the ball from the left side of the field into the box. Qaisi possessed Flickinger's cross in space and blasted his shot past the keeper and into the upper right hand corner of the net. Both teams had opportunities to change the score line, but the score held at 1-0 into halftime.
California had multiple opportunities to score an equalizer in the second half, but sophomore Darian McCauley held steady and saved every shot directed his way. A scene of chaos in the box in the 87th minute led to a rebounded ball finding the feet of Adiletta, and he fired a shot into the back of the net to ice California's hopes of a comeback.
While the Vulcans shot the ball 10 times and registered seven shots on goal, Millersville's defense and midfield were effective in controlling possession. McCauley kept his head on a swivel in the goal and his seven saves against Vulcans jumped him to first in the conference with a .821 save percentage. McCauley and his defensive back line of Qaisi, senior Kody Eberly, junior Kyle Finsterbush, and freshman Nathan Maynard rank first in the conference with the fewest goals allowed while McCauley ranks second in the conference with four shutouts.
Adiletta now leads the team with four goals scored including three goals in his last four games. Qaisi moved up to fourth on the team with two goals scored and tied for first on the team with two game-winning goals. Flickinger has recorded three assists and currently ranks in the top-10 in the conference in assists per game.
The Marauders improved to 7-1-1 and 3-1 in PSAC play and now are in fourth place in the conference. Millersville is 1-1 since earning a top-10 ranking from the US Soccer Coaches Poll and the next national rankings release on Oct. 3. Millersville's next match is at West Chester Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. West Chester has won all four conference games played and are rank second in the conference overall.
