West Chester, Pa. -- Despite scoring two unanswered goals in a comeback attempt, No. 11 Millersville lost their match 3-2 at West Chester University Wednesday.
Millersville dug a deep hole after allowing the Golden Rams to score three goals in the opening 37 minutes of play. Freshman defender Nathan Maynard began the rally in the 39th minute after scoring his first goal of the season from junior Kyle Finsterbush's assist. A West Chester foul in the box in the 59th minute allowed senior Marcus Frangakis to score his third goal of the season on a penalty kick for Millersville's second goal of the game.
After the converted penalty kick, the Millersville defense clamped down and held the Golden Rams to only three shots. Junior Dylan Fogerty and Frangakis each forced a save from the West Chester keeper, but the Millersville offense could not score an equalizer.
The Marauders fall to 7-2-1 and 3-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference while West Chester stay perfect at 5-0 in conference play. No. 11 Millersville return to Pucillo Field to host conference rival No. 21 Mercyhurst University Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The Millersville men's soccer team will also celebrate Alumni Day on Oct. 7.
