Men's soccer rebounds against Caldwell

Millersville, Pennsylvania. - Jacob Gosselin scored with two minutes remaining in the first half before Kyle Finsterbush and Ahmed Qaisi added goals in the second to lead Millersville to a 3-0 victory over Caldwell Thursday. Darian McCauley picked up six saves en route to his fifth shutout win this season. The Marauders outshot the Cougars 22-13 with 11 shots on goal.
Nicholas Leinbach was inserted into the starting lineup and registered the first shot for the Marauders that was scooped up by Fritz Meister. Caldwell took a couple of shots and had the first real chance at a goal when Darren Appanah fired a shot from the penalty mark that was saved by McCauley. Millersville would then press the action with shots from Marcus Frangakis and Leinbach. The Cougars had a trio of dangerous corner kicks, but the Marauder defense was able to clear the line and McCauley came up big with a punch to keep the game scoreless.
In the 31st minute, the Marauders would earn a free kick from about 10 yards outside of the box that Omar Guzman would strike just high of the crossbar. Caldwell had a pair of shots that were both sent wide before Ahmed Qaisi sent a header just high off a Millersville corner. Minutes later, Qaisi nearly struck when he got on top of a header, forcing Meister to lay out for a save. The Marauders would net the first goal of the game when Oliver Calvo ripped a shot that bounced off the post to Jacob Gosselin's feet and Gosselin would score his fourth of the season to put Millersville ahead 1-0 just before halftime.
Caldwell looked to equalize in the 56th when Joaqin Escudero had the ball inside the box but Qaisi got a touch on the ball that rolled to McCauley. Millersville looked to double their lead minutes later after a handball in the box set up a Ryan Phelps penalty kick. A diving Meister robbed Phelps' attempt and when the rebound came to Gosselin, Meister made another big save to keep the score 1-0. The Marauders would strike in the 64th after earning a corner kick, the ball was played out to Frangakis who dropped it into the box where Kyle Finsterbush one-timed it for the second goal of the game.
The pace of the game slowed after the second goal, but the Marauders almost added a third in the 70th when Meister was pulled out of the box but the Caldwell defense blocked the Millersville shot. Minutes later, Nathan Delgado got the ball on the left side and dribbled in to the box where he swung it across to Qaisi who sent a diving header into the back of the net. Jeramey Robbins nearly added a fourth goal in the 18th minute when he clanked a shot off the crossbar.
Millersville improves to 6-2-2 (3-1-2 PSAC) and is off until Wednesday when they travel to Lock Haven to face the Eagles at 1 p.m.
