Marauders Split with Ashland and Cedarville on Day Three
3/7/2015 4:16:00 PM | Softball
Clermont, Fla. - Scoring was hard to come by for the Millersville softball team on day three in Florida as the Marauders dropped a 1-0 decision to Ashland and pulled out a 2-1 win against Cedarville thanks to another marvelous start from freshman Cassidy Pinchorski.
The Eagles (10-1) needed just one run in the bottom of the first to defeat the Marauders (3-3) who turned to Pinchorski in the day's second game. Behind the Williams Valley product's complete-game performance, Millersville scored one in the second and one in the fourth to take down the Yellow Jackets (6-9).
Against Ashland in its half of the first, the Eagles' Jerrica Young brought in Kalene Freshour on an RBI double and that was the lone run scored all day for either team. That was the only blemish for Brianna Andraos who took the loss for Millersville and fell to 1-2 on the young season.
For the second game of the day's doubleheader, Heather Lutz led off the bottom of the second with a walk and moved to second thanks to Stephanie Kulp's sacrifice bunt. Next up, Maria Spinosa reached on a throwing error by Cedarville's third baseman, which allowed Lutz to score. In the fourth, Kulp singled to center and advanced to second when Spinosa bunted her over. After a Megan Hallock popup, Mandy Hammond singled to left to score Kulp.
The next half inning, Cedarville's Breanna Hughes pinch-hit for Kaitlyn Woerner, walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. She then moved to third on a single from Elyssa Reyes and scored on a throwing error by Spinosa to cut the deficit in half but Pinchorski buckled down as she had all day.
Pinchorski (2-1) threw seven innings and gave up one unearned run on just two hits while striking out five and walking two. In the three starts to begin her freshman campaign, Pinchorski has only given up four runs, three of which were earned in 21 innings pitched.
The Marauders have just one game on Sunday against Bentley with first pitch slated for 11 a.m.
