Offense Hard to Come by as West Chester Sweeps Millersville

Millersville, Pa. - Last season at home, the Millersville softball team shutout West Chester in both games of a doubleheader for the first time since 2002. The Golden Rams avenged those losses on Monday by doing exactly that to the Marauders with scores of 6-0 and 1-0.
Millersville (8-11, 0-4 PSAC East) has dropped five of its last six while West Chester (14-6, 4-0 PSAC East) pushed its win streak to four after losing three straight and dropping 11 spots in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
In game one, the Golden Rams scored three in the first and three in the fourth against Brianna Andraos (4-5) who gave up those six runs on seven hits with seven walks and six strikeouts. Stephanie Kulp came on in relief and did a marvelous job with one and two thirds shutout innings and only allowed one hit with two punchouts. The away team's Amanda Houck (6-1) earned the complete-game win with five hits allowed, two free passes and three strikeouts.
West Chester needed only a solo home run from Erin Whitman in the fourth inning of game two to get the win and the sweep. The hosts were held scoreless with just three hits and advanced a runner past first base one time and that came in the bottom of the first when Jordan Sheffield doubled and then moved to third on a groundout.
Cassidy Pinchorski (4-6) was dealing once again with just one earned run in the complete game performance to go with six hits allowed, two walks and eight strikeouts. For the fifth time in the freshman's nine starts, she was given two runs or less of support. Her ERA now sits at 1.58 and she has gone the distance in all nine of those starts. Brooke Harner (5-5) was the winner for the Golden Rams with three hits allowed and five punchouts.
For the day, Kulp was the only Marauder with multiple hits as she was 2-for-5 at the dish.
Next up, Millersville travels to East Stroudsburg on Friday with first pitch in game one set for 2:30 p.m.
