Mansfield, Pa. - The Millersville softball team's season ended at Mansfield on Saturday afternoon as the Mountaineers swept the Marauders with scores of 3-0 and 4-3.
Millersville (23-25, 11-17, PSAC East) had just two hits in game one as Kate Pratt was in the circle for Mansfield (23-13, 15-11 PSAC East) and the Mountaineers broke the 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth in game two.
GAME ONE RECAP
Mansfield scored two in the bottom of the first with a two-run double and added its third run in the sixth with an inside the park home run to right field. On the other side, Millersville managed just two hits, one from Jordan Sheffield in in the fourth and another by Gabbie Berry in the seventh, neither of which came to fruition.
In the circle, Brianna Andraos (14-13) was saddled with the loss after she tossed six innings and gave up three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and four walks. The Mountaineers' Kate Pratt improved to 10-5 with a complete game shutout, two hits allowed and four punchouts.
GAME TWO RECAP
In the day's rematch, Mansfield scored three runs in the third to take an early 3-0 advantage over its visitors, but the Marauders didn't go away quietly.
The next inning, Heather Lutz led off the frame with a walk and Maria Spinosa put runners on first and second with a single up the middle. After a flyout and groundout that moved the runners to second and third, pitcher Amanda Wink helped herself with her first hit of the season, a two-run double to left center that brought in both runners.
In the top of the fifth, Danielle DiFilippo started the inning with a single to left and advanced to second thanks to a wild pitch. DiFilippo then moved to third after a groundout and scored when Lutz increased her program record for doubles in a season with her 19th two-bagger, this time to right field.
The score was tied until there were two outs in the bottom of the sixth and the Mountaineers broke the deadlock with an RBI double up the middle.
Wink (6-10) gave up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out one batter and walking two. At the dish, DiFilippo, Lutz and Spinosa each had two hits apiece while Taylor Odell-Smith was a combined 0-for-3 with a walk in her final two games as a Marauder.
