Raleigh, N.C. - The Millersville softball team opened its 2014 season on Saturday at the Shaw Challenge with a pair of losses to Fairmont State (2-1) and Alderson-Broaddus (5-4).
Against Fairmont State, the Marauders struck first In the bottom of the opening inning. Both Jordan Sheffield and Danielle DiFilippo walked to open the frame and after a Gabbie Berry groundout, DiFilippo advanced to third and Sheffield came in to score on a passed ball giving the Marauders an early 1-0 lead.
However, Courtney Iacobacci answered with a solo homerun for the Fighting Falcons in the top of the third to knot things up at one run apiece. The very next inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Sarah Parsons scored on an error to make it 2-1 in favor of Fairmont State.
