
No. 11 Kutztown Shuts Down Marauders

Kutztown, Pa. – The Millersville softball team opened PSAC East play against No. 11 Kutztown Tuesday at North Campus Softball Field. The Marauders took an early lead in the first of two games, but was held scoreless in 10 consecutive innings to start 0-2 in conference play.
Millersville (10-10, 0-2 PSAC East) hung with the No. 11 team in the country for four innings before the Golden Bears (23-4, 2-0 PSAC East) showed their power.
Kelly Fitzgerald pushed her hit-streak to 18-straight games when she led off the top of the fourth innings with a single to center field. Allison Chew followed with another single back to the center fielder to put the Marauders in scoring position down, 1-0.
Laying down a sacrifice bunt and advancing both runners a base was freshman Taylor Odell-Smith. It give Casey Coker a chance to drive in her 10th RBI of the season.
Coker roped the ball into right-center field, bringing in Fitzgerald and Chew to give Millersville a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
The Golden Bears responded quickly by scoring five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning.
Jackie Hetzler had the most devastating hit--a triple that drove in two. She then scored on a fielding error by the infield. Hetzler finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two triples and two RBIs.
Kutztown scored two more in the fifth to increase its lead to 8-2 and put the game out of reach.
Monica Glomb (10-2) entered the first game in relief after Millersville went up 2-1 to pick up her ninth win of the season. Glomb also started the second game pitching seven more scoreless innings to earn both wins in the doubleheader. In 10.2 innings of work she gave up no runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and walked none.
The Golden Bears again found their bats in the fourth inning scoring all four it their runs on five hits. They out-hit the Marauders 8-2 in the second game, 21-10 on the day.
Hetzler hit her third triple of the day, driving in one to help Kutztown get its second win over Millersville, 4-0.
Emily Sneeringer and Deanna Schneiderreit each recorded a hit for the Marauders. Fitzgerald went 0-for-3 to end her hit-streak at 18 games.
Millersville stays on the road this weekend against another PSAC East foe when it travels to Shippensburg on Saturday. The Marauders and Raiders begin their doubleheader at 1p.m.
Live stats may not be available for the first game due to scheduling conflicts but should be up and running for game two.
