
Women's Tennis Sweeps Georgian Court for Season Opening Win

Lakewood, N.J. - Rain pushed the Millersville women's tennis season opener back multiple times, but the Marauders finally took to the courts Tuesday night against Georgian Court and came home with a 9-0 victory.
The Marauders (1-0) won their fourth straight match against the Lions and did so in convincing fashion. Millersville did not surrender a single point and did not lose a set. All six players in Millersville lineup boasted at least one year of experience.
Melissa Plowman and Samantha Prager set the tone at No. 1 singles, defeated Sarah Lockenmeyer and Maria Leal by an 8-2 score. Kelsey Waite and Elizabeth Wagner won 8-3 over Victoria Gaffney and Nicole Way in the No. 2 spot. Shauna Powers and Alexandra Heller clinched th third point with an 8-0 sweep of Heather Jensen and Marian Rosado.
In singles, Plowman survived a scare in the first set against Leal to win, 7-5, 6-3. Prager cruised past Gaffney for a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Powers earned a 6-3, 7-5 win in the No.3 spot, and Waite won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Wagner, who won seven consecutive singles matches to close last spring, picked up where she left off by not dropping a set to Jensen. Heller finished the sweep in the No. 6 flight with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rosado.
Millersville travels to Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday.
