MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville University women's tennis team fell to the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University, 6-1, in a rescheduled match-up. The duo of Lauren Hayes and Marian Hayes secured the Marauders' lone doubles victory with a strong 6-1 performance. In singles play, M. Hayes remained dominant, earning the team's only point and continuing her perfect spring season.
In doubles action, Lauren Hayes and Marian Hayes continued their strong spring performance, earning a convincing 6-1 victory. Annika Rojas and Mia Gassert battled throughout their match but ultimately fell 6-4, while Luci Consigliere and Duda Coutinho Barreto dropped their match-up 6-1.
M. Hayes secured the Marauders' lone singles victory with a hard-fought 6-1, 1-6, 1(4)-0 win, improving to a perfect 7-0 record this spring. Gassert and Consigliere each put up competitive efforts, falling 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1, respectively. L. Hayes dropped her match 6-2, 6-0, while Rojas and Barreto also came up short with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-3, respectively.
"Jefferson has a lot of tough players so they were a handful today," said head coach Matt Helsel. "We did a nice job on court one of doubles [Hayes sisters] but couldn't get a second dubs court over the finish line. Marian obviously played a great singles match. Playing tough teams like this though, only helps us moving forward. We do have some players playing with more confidence and getting more experience, which will come in handy as we get deeper into conference play."
The Marauders are back in action April 9, when they travel to face the Wildcats from Wilmington.
