NEW CASTLE, DE. - The Millersville University women's tennis team faced a tough challenge against the 13-3 Wildcats from Wilmington University, falling 6-1 in the dual match. Lauren Hayes led the way for the Marauders, earning the team's lone point with an impressive day that included a commanding 6-1 doubles victory alongside Marian Hayes and a hard-fought win in singles play.
In doubles, the Hayes sisters continued their strong form, improving to 8-7 on the season while extending their win streak to five matches. Mia Gassert and Annika Rojas were narrowly edged out in a competitive 7-5 match, while the duo of Luci Consigliere and Duda Coutinho Barreto fell 6-2.
M. Hayes' undefeated spring campaign came to an end as she narrowly missed a first-set win in a 7-6(5) tiebreak before falling 6-3 in the second set. Barreto also came close to victory, battling through a tight match but ultimately falling 6-3, 7-6(3). Gassert and Consigliere remained competitive in their opening sets, dropping 6-4 and 6-2, but struggled to maintain momentum in the second sets, falling 6-2 and 6-0. Rojas was the only Marauder to force a third set, rallying in the second before ultimately coming up short in a 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(5) decision. L.
