Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2
Kutztown, Pa. — Kutztown pitcher Katlin Arbogast was greeted rudely when she stepped into the circle against the Millersville softball team 17 days ago. The Marauders knocked her around for seven earned runs in two games, but on Friday afternoon she extracted some revenge. Arbogast earned wins in each end of a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader, as Kutztown rolled past Millersville by scores of 4-3 and 4-0 at North Campus Field in Kutztown.
A three-run second inning propelled the Golden Bears (29-12, 9-3 PSAC East) to the lead in game one against Millersville starter Sarah Signore. Nicole Henninger's two-run single highlighted the inning for Kutztown, but none of the three runs were charged to Signore (6-7), after two errors allowed the inning to stay alive.
Millersville (16-21, 3-9 PSAC East) briefly trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the fifth. Jamie Motsko reached on an error and was moved to third on a double from Amy Kossyk. Motsko then scored on a sacrifice fly from Jill Golomboski. KU got the run back in the home half of the fifth on a Krista Tedjeske RBI double.
Trying to make one last push, the Marauders scored twice in the top of the seventh, before leaving the tying run stranded at second base in a 4-3 game. Anna Libby's two-out single was aided by an error from Kutztown left fielder Jen Stow. Kossyk and Keena Elbin came around to score on the play, but Arbogast got Millersville lead-off hitter Lindsay Hosier to line out a few pitches later to end it.
Arbogast was victorious for the 18th time this season in a game where she did not allow an earned run and yielded just seven hits. Signore also allowed seven hits, and only gave up one earned run in taking the loss. The junior struck out six Golden Bears in her 17th appearance of the season.
Kossyk was a bright spot for Millersville in defeat, as she was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the game. The three hits tied a career-high, which she last set against East Stroudsburg on Mar. 18, 2009.
The Black and Gold had no such luck scoring runs in the second game. The team struggled to register five hits against the pitching duo of Monica Glomb and Arbogast.
Glomb started and gave up two hits over three innings before giving way to the Golden Bears' senior ace. Arbogast (19-6) did her job flawlessly, yet again, with a three-hit, three-strikeout outing over the final four innings.
Millersville was only able to get a runner past second base once in the contest. That came in the third when Hosier doubled and then stole third. The senior was caught stealing for the first time this season in game one, but took her 21st bag of the year with the swipe in game two.
Kutztown's offense was taken care of by Katie Lynch, who had two RBIs. Sarah Couch had a pinch-hit RBI double, and Michelle McGinty knocked in a run, as the Golden Bears scored once in the third, once in the fourth, and twice in the fifth to secure the regular season sweep of Millersville.
Alicia Hughes (5-7) suffered the loss for MU in game two. She struck out two and all four runs against her were allowed.
Millersville returns home for non-conference doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. The Marauders host Slippery Rock tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., and then welcome Holy Family to the Millersville University Softball Field on Sunday at noon.
