Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2
Takoma Park, Md. — A road trip out of state and a second doubleheader in less than 24 hours couldn't stop the Millersville softball team as it picked up another set of wins, this time beating homestanding Columbia Union 9-6 and 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Marauders (11-9) ran their winning streak to six games and are an impressive 8-2 in their last 10. In game one Millersville jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Columbia Union (2-8) cut the deficit to one after three innings of play. Early on MU was paced by a 3-run homer from Janelle Mrakovich. It was the first home run of the season for Mrakovich, who led the team in that category a year ago.
Millersville extended its 4-3 lead to 7-3 in the fifth. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, the Marauders went on a 2-out run scoring rampage. Sam Jackson started things with a double and scored on a RBI single from Jill Golomboski. Lindsay Hosier soon followed with a double that plated two more runs.
The Black and Gold recorded 11 hits in game one, led by Golomboski's 3-for-4 effort. Four players had multi-hit games and Mrakovich finished with four RBIs. Emily Flieger (3-1) earned the win for the Marauders, striking out four over five innings.
The Millersville bats stayed hot in game two, knocking out 10 hits in the 5-1 victory. The Pioneers would get on the board in the bottom of the first against Marauders' starter Dana Bozzetto, who exited after giving up one run in 0.2 innings. Sophomore Courtney Eckman (4-3) came on to earn the win, throwing 6.2 innings of shutout ball and striking out four.
The Marauders would score in four consecutive innings from the third to the sixth. Mrakovich was 3-for-4, while Hosier and Casey Coker both had two-hit games. Kelly Fitzgerald drove in a pair of runs for MU.
Millersville returns home Wednesday to take on Lincoln (Pa.) in a doubleheader at the Millersville University Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
