ABOUT THE GAME

Millersville opens PSAC East play Saturday with a road trip to West Chester. The Marauders' early season schedule has been a challenge with games in the last two weeks against nationally ranked Slippery Rock and a California team that reached the NCAA Playoffs in 2025. The slate gets no easier this week against the Golden Rams, which is 2-1 and coming off a convincing 44-24 win over Edinboro. The week prior, West Chester took No. 14 IUP into double overtime before a narrow 27-21 loss. It is Homecoming Saturday at West Chester, making for what is expected to be a jampacked Farrell Stadium.

GAME STORYLINES

The Marauders have had little go their way in the first three weeks. The initial plan for the opener was to alternate possessions with quarterbacks Tommy Hunsicker and Ryan Zeltt. Zeltt was injured on his first series and missed the week two game. Hunsicker rushed for 120 yards in week one and led Millersville to a 9-0 lead over California by completing 7 of his first 10 passes, but he then suffered an injury just before halftime. Zeltt returned to the lineup against Slippery Rock but back-up Eddie Corkery leads the trio with two TD passes and 190 yards passing in his limited action.
Freshman wide receiver Jayden Walters has opened eyes in the last two weeks, as he became the first Marauder since 2017 to record at least 96 yards and a touchdown in back-to-back games. Walters broke the century mark for the first time in his career last week, making three catches for 103 yards. He's shown big-play ability with touchdown catches of 41 and 60 yards.
Colin Hastings, the team's leading receive in 2025, pulled in a season-high five catches last week against Slippery Rock. So far, 11 different players have caught a pass. Walters and sophomore Caileb Howse lead the team with eight catches apiece.
After rushing for 218 yards and three touchdowns in the opener, the run game has been bottled up for the Marauders. California limited the Marauders to 39 yards on 26 carries and Millersville mustered just 19 yards on 20 carries against Slippery Rock. No running back has a rush of longer than 14 yards. That 14-yard run belongs to Mekhi Ashby, who is averaging 3.5 yards per carry--the best among the running back stable.
It is a young Millersville offense with five true freshmen, including three on the offense line, playing prominent roles. Guard Jayden Snook redshirted as a freshman in 2025. Howse is in his first season at wide receiver after playing quarterback in 2025. Mason Musitano is starting at tight end after playing wide receiver early in his career. Corkery also redshirted as a true freshman last season.
On defense, Millersville picked off a pass in each of the first two games but could not force a turnover or record a sack against Slippery Rock. While Slippery Rock entered last week's game averaging 52.0 points and over 500 yards of offense per game, West Chester enters this week's game ranked 10th in the PSAC with 321.3 yards per game and eighth in scoring at 28.7 points per game. The Golden Rams rank eighth in the conference in rushing and 11th in passing.
Colin O'Sullivan won the PSAC East Athlete of the Week award after completing 14 of 19 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns against Edinboro. Blake Thomas was his top target, finishing with 113 yards on five catches. O'Sullivan played in four games in 2025 after transferring to West Chester from Rutgers. O'Sullivan played at Upper Dublin High School for former Millersville quarterback Bret Stover, whose son, Drew Stover, was a PSAC East Athlete of the Year award winner on the basketball court at Millersville. O'Sullivan did not play in the opener but attempted 55 passes and threw two picks against IUP in week two.
Millersville will have its hands full trying to slow down Mikhail Johnson. Johnson averages 5.3 yards per carry and 85.3 yards per game, ranking fourth in the PSAC. It is the third consecutive game that Millersville has faced a running back that ranks in the PSAC's top five in yards.
West Chester's defense ranks third in the PSAC in both scoring (21.3) and total defense (275.0). The unit is steady and has not relied on splash plays, having recorded just two interceptions and six sacks. West Chester has been outstanding on third down, holding opponents to a 32.4% conversion rate and ranking third in the PSAC.
West Chester coach Duke Greco is in his third season and owns a 10-14 record. Greco landed at West Chester after going 91-15 with six NCAA playoff appearances at Delaware Valley.

SERIES HISTORY

Millersville snapped West Chester's 19-game winning streak in the series with a 23-14 win in 2023, but West Chester has responded by winning the last two games by scores of 41-23 and 38-7. Millersville has not won at West Chester since Drew Folmar's senior season of 2000 when the Marauders squeaked out a defensive struggle by a 6-0 final score. Folmar went 3-1 in four career starts against West Chester. The 35 points scored in 1999 were the second most points that Millersville has scored in 92 games against West Chester.
Road trips to West Chester have been unkind to Millersville. Millersville has topped 16 points just twice in the last 12 games at Farrell Stadium.
