ABOUT THE GAME
- After knocking on the door of victory for several weeks, Millersville kicked down the door Saturday with a hard-fought, 31-28 win at Lackawanna. Millersville's defense created three turnovers and Mekhi Ashby rushed for a career-high 167 yards and two touchdowns as the Marauders scored a season-high 31 points. The Marauders don't have time to celebrate, though, as the PSAC East champs, East Stroudsburg, come to town on Saturday. The Warriors are riding high after unseating No. 3 Kutztown in overtime (32-25), securing a spot in the PSAC Championship game on Nov. 14 at Slippery Rock. East Stroudsburg has been on a roll since its week three loss to Slippery Rock. The Warriors have surrendered just 52 points in the last six games, and 25 of those were scored by Kutztown last week. Since Sept. 26, ESU has allowed no more than 13 points in five of the last six and has pitched two shutouts.
- Saturday's game also features a match-up of two former PSAC star quarterbacks coaching their alma maters. For Millersville, Drew Folmar is in his first season as head coach. He was a three-time All-PSAC East selection and the 1997 PSAC East Rookie of the Year. Jimmy Terwilliger is in his seventh season at ESU, and as a quarterback for the Warriors, he was a three-time All-American and set Division II records for total offense, passing yards, passing efficiency and touchdowns. Terwilliger's offensive coordinator and his father, Mike, who has been a part of the ESU staff for 47 years. As a player, Folmar went 4-0 against East Stroudsburg, averaging 43.0 points per game, and his 54-point explosion in 1999 still stands as the highest scoring game for Millersville against ESU. Terwilliger also went 4-0 against Millersville from 2003-06, although the games were close. ESU twice won by just four points.

GAME STORYLINES
- Running back Mekhi Ashby has been the featured player in Millersville's offense in recent weeks and he now ranks fourth in the PSAC in rushing yards (665) and second in carries (161). Ashby's 34 carries against Lackawanna were the most by a Marauder since 2008 and his 167 rushing yards were the most since 2024. Ashby has totaled 21 or more carries four times this season and has two games of 126 or more yards. He's scored a touchdown in three of the last six games.
- Sophomore Calieb Howse is also making an impact in his first season at the wide receiver position. A converted quarterback, Howse leads the team with 26 catches, and he hauled in two touchdown catches Saturday at Lackawanna, giving him three on the season. Howse is also 2 for 2 for 107 yards and two touchdowns throwing the ball this season.
- Tommy Hunsicker has started the last two games at quarterback after missing a chunk of the season with a shoulder injury sustained in week two against California. He has three touchdown passes in his last two games, completing 61% of his 33 pass attempts. He rushed for 47 yards at Lackawanna as well, his second highest total of the season.
- Linebacker Bryce Beutler's career high 14 tackles Saturday moved him up to the top spot in the PSAC in tackles with 94--an average of 10.4 per game. Beutler has a nose for the ball as well, forcing three fumbles, which is tied for second in the PSAC.
- Millersville's lead in interceptions is defensive lineman Max Hostetter. He picked off his third pass of the season Saturday at Lackawanna, moving him into a tie for second in the PSAC. Hostetter is also up to 3 1/2 sacks, which is the team lead.
- East Stroudsburg is peaking at the right time and is one of the most balanced teams in the PSAC, ranking third in scoring offense (35.7) and second in scoring defense (17.4). The Warriors have been dominant in the trenches, rushing for 251.2 yards per game and 5.7 yards per carry while allowing just 3.7 yards per carry and 107.9 yards per game. The run game features the duo of quarterback Harrison Susi and running back Ajani Walker who rank 10th and 11th in the PSAC in rushing yards. Susi has 101 carries for a 4.5 ypc average while Walker averages 6.6 ypc on 90 totes. Susi has attempted 90 passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Matt Machalik has progressively taken over the bulk of the snaps at the position and has attempted at least 16 passes in the last three games, with a career high 27 against Kutztown. Elijah Ford is the primary weapon on the outside with 31 caches for 597 yards and four scores. No other player on the team has more than 139 receiving yards. ESU's ability to run the ball helps it control the game's tempo. The Warriors rank first in the PSAC in time of possession at 32:21 per game.
- On defense, the Warriors' Camerin Gross has been a playmaker, totaling a team high 10 1/2 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups.
SERIES HISTORY
- ESU holds a 47-28-1 lead over Millersville in the all-time series, which dates back to 1948. The Warriors are 16-11-1 all-time at Biemesderfer Stadium, but Millersville has won two of the last three at home, and has had its share of success against the Warriors in recent years. While ESU has won three in a row, Millersville won three of five meetings from 2017-2022. All three of those games were low scoring (12-0, 11-10, 20-14), and Millersville has not scored more than 23 points against ESU since a 31-17 win 2011.
- In last season's PSAC East finale, Millersville jumped out to an early lead and led 14-0, but Millersville's four possessions ended in turnovers--three interceptions and one on downs--and each turnover resulted in ESU points as the Warriors scored touchdowns on four consecutive drives. Of the Warriors' five touchdown drives in the game, not one was longer than 51 yards. Tommy Hunsicker came off the bench for Millersville and went 3 for 7 for 54 yards, rushed for 33 and scored a touchdown. Ashby totaled 83 yards on 17 carries.
