HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marauders faced an early 7-0 deficit after Michael Hardyway connected with Derrell Pierson for a 62-yard Shepherd touchdown in the first quarter.Â
Millersville stayed scoreless in the second quarter despite holding the ball for 8:15, converting 1 of 6 third downs and punting four times. The defense forced three Shepherd punts and Max Hostetter's 8-yard sack pushed one drive back, but Shepherd drove 59 yards in the final minute and scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 29 seconds left before the PAT made it 14-0. The Marauders moved to the Shepherd 44 on their final possession before an interception ended the half.
Late in the third, Max Hostetter's interception gave the Marauders the ball at the Shepherd 43, and Howse, a wide receiver, hit Bradshaw for a 43-yard touchdown on the next snap. Any momentum for the Marauders was quickly dashed as Shepherd answered with a 53-yard touchdown run and extra point, and the quarter ended with the Marauders trailing 21-7.
Earlier in the third, Millersville had a red zone scoring opportunity, driving 65 yards on 14 plays but came away empty after an interception in the end zone.Â
The Marauders were held scoreless in the fourth quarter, punting on their first three possessions as Shepherd added two touchdowns. Ryan Zeltt's 11-yard completion to Sines gave Millersville one of its two first downs in the quarter, but the offense finished the fourth quarter with 24 passing yards and minus-9 rushing yards.Â
