MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Marauders opened the 2026 season with a strong showing, defeating Holy Family, 5-0, Friday night at Pucillo Field. Multiple lightning delays pushed the scheduled 7 p.m. start to 9:45 p.m., but once play resumed, Millersville found its rhythm. After scoring in the final seconds of the first half, the Marauders added four goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Both teams maintained possession throughout the opening 10 minutes, but the action began to pick up following a yellow card against Holy Family that awarded Millersville a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Zander Leik put a shot on goal that sailed over the net as the score remained tied.

Multiple lightning delays continued to push back the game, but play eventually resumed after the weather cleared.

A heavy amount of yellow cards were issued throughout the first half, resulting in several free-kick opportunities. Neither side was able to capitalize on the chances.

The Marauders ultimately struck first with two seconds remaining in the half when Juan Ortiz Escobar scored on a breakaway chip shot to give Millersville a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Millersville carried the momentum into the second half, as Roy Parkyn drew a penalty kick within the first five minutes. Parkyn converted the opportunity to extend the Marauders' lead to 2-0.

The Marauders struck again shortly after, as a red card against the Tigers awarded Millersville a free kick. Senior Louis Wright found the top-left corner of the net to push the lead to 3-0.

Nick Woodfill extended Millersville's lead to four in the 70th minute, dribbling past a defender before finding the back of the net for his first goal as a Marauder.

Just two minutes later, Drew Jones drew another penalty kick, and Haven Thomas converted the opportunity to score the fifth and final goal of the night.

Millersville returns to action Sunday when it hosts Ashland at 1 p.m.

With all the constant delays how'd you feel the team adjusted through out the night to come out with a victory? "It was a difficult night and very unusual but the guys were fantastic with their focus and energy and handled everything superbly. They put all the adversity aside and put in a very solid performance."
This being the first game of the season and you had five different players score. What does that say about the depth of your offense? "We knew we have plenty of options all over the field so it was good to get time from everyone tonight and for several guys to get on the scoresheet. We hope that continues but especially the unselfish mentality to enjoy seeing their teammates score just as much as when they score themselves. I thought everyone's togetherness was the highlight tonight."
