ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (4–7, 0–5 PSAC) welcome their most storied rival to town in their opening game of PSAC East play, the East Stroudsburg Warriors (8–4, 3–2 PSAC), in pursuit of their first conference win this season. The Marauders are 0–2 since the new year began but played some strong opponents in their past few matchups, including PSAC West-leading IUP (12–0) and nationally ranked Gannon (14–1). The Marauders look to build off some of their strong points this season as PSAC East play kicks off. The highs for the Marauders have been extremely high, being tied with Gannon going into the fourth quarter of a neck-and-neck game, taking Fayetteville State to their limits, and knocking off a perennial tournament contender in Jefferson at home. Millersville’s youth has been on display in the early parts of the season, but now with more than ten games under their belt, the Marauders are working toward hitting their stride. East Stroudsburg, on the other hand, currently sits at the No. 3 seed in the PSAC East going into Eastern Conference play and looks to build off its strong start.

GAME STORYLINES

  • The Marauders find themselves on the verge of a four-game skid after opening the season 4–4. The Marauders currently sit just three spots below where they finished last year in the PSAC East and look to make a statement on their side of the PSAC as East play starts up this Wednesday.
  • The Marauders are averaging 63.1 points per game but have struggled to find that number recently, averaging 47.0 points per game over their last three contests. While Millersville has played strong competition, the Marauders will need to return to that 63.1-point threshold to knock off an East Stroudsburg team that averages 64.3 points per game and concedes just 60.8 points on average.
  • The Marauders have shown their strength on the glass this season, averaging 44.7 rebounds per game as opposed to the Warriors’ 37.4.
  • Millersville has struggled from three-point range this year, shooting 30.1%, but the most consistent three-point shooter for the black and gold has been Daniella Ranieli, who is shooting 34.6% from beyond the arc. This could play in favor of the Marauders, as the majority of East Stroudsburg’s offensive production is generated from the paint and inside the arc.
  • The Warriors have three double-digit scorers, with the top two, sisters Brie and Brooke Droege, operating in and around the paint. Brie Droege is averaging 13.3 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, while Brooke Droege is averaging 11.8 points per game on 41.8% shooting. The third-highest point total comes from guard Avery White, who is averaging 10.4 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Marauders and PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg have shared a long and competitive history, meeting 100 times with Millersville holding a 64–36 advantage in the all-time series. The Marauders have been especially dominant at home, where they own a 37–11 record, and have also fared well in conference play with a 59–27 mark against the Warriors. Despite Millersville’s overall success in the matchup, East Stroudsburg enters having won the last two meetings, snapping what has historically been a Marauder-friendly series. This rivalry has consistently been one of the most competitive in the PSAC East. It is just the second time Head Coach Mowen and Head Coach Flooks meet head to head after ESU took both games last year, the second being an overtime thriller ending.
