ABOUT THE GAME
- Millersville women's basketball heads to Shepherdstown, W. Va. for a rematch with the top offensive unit in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Shepherd. The Rams are coming off back-to-back losses, which ties their longest losing streak of the season. Their most recent loss came to Lock Haven by one point on Monday, Feb, 14. Millersville has dropped two straight games as well after winning their previous four out of five contests.
- Shepherd has already clinched a postseason berth, while the Marauders are still fighting to stay alive in the PSAC East race. Millersville is currently tied with Mansfield for the final spot in the postseason and Lock Haven sits two games ahead of the Marauders at fifth in the East.
It's been a tough season for us playing three games in a week; However, we will have to regroup and focus in on Shepherd and our final stretch of games.Head Coach Sharay Hall
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
- Millersville is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time since Jan. 17 (Loss to Shepherd) and Jan. 19 (Loss to West Chester), since that they've gone 6-5 and hurdled into playoff consideration. However, the Marauders are still on the outside looking in, a victory against a Shepherd team streaking in the wrong direction would be huge for 'Ville down the stretch.
- In both losses, the Marauders allowed Mansfield (71) and Kutztown (65) to score more than what they've held teams to on average this season (60.3 ppg). Millersville will need to focus on containing Shepherd as they score more points than any team in the PSAC at 68.8 per game.
- A bright spot in both losses was freshman, Makiah Shaw reaching double-digit scoring. She was able to score 12 in the loss to Mansfield and 13 against nationally ranked Kutztown. The last time these two teams met Shaw only scored three points off 1-4 shooting from the floor, she'll look to make a larger impact this time around.
- Laure Lister scored 16 points in the Marauders' loss to Kutztown and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The redshirt senior will look to continue to lead this young 'Ville team in the right direction as the season winds down.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
- Abby Beeman (1), Marley McLaughlin (6), and Sydney Clayton (7) are all top-seven scorers in the PSAC this season. The Rams' three-headed monster caused a number of problems for the ‘Ville defense earlier this season. Beeman scored 19 and dished out eight assists, Clayton scored 18 and grabbed 15 boards, and McLaughlin scored 12. The three likely All-PSAC East players accounted for 49 of Shepherd's 56 total points, and 11 of the Rams' 14 assists. Them, along with Meghan Shiply and Madi White do most of Shepherd's damage on the offensive end.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Millersville: Kutztown 65, Millersville 46 (Feb. 14, 2022) - Millersville fell to Kutztown on the road, in a rematch less than a week after the Marauders upset the nationally ranked Golden Bears at Pucillo Gymnasium. Lister led 'Ville with 16 points in the loss.
Shepherd: Lock Haven 56, Shepherd 55 (Feb. 14, 2022) - Lock Haven guard, Anhera Parker made a go-ahead layup with 26 seconds remaining to lift the Bald Eagles over Shepherd. Beeman scored 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds and nine assists in a near triple-double for the junior.
THE LAST MEETING
- Shepherd 56, Millersville 44 (Jan. 17, 2022) - Millersville played one of their best offensive and defense halves at that point of the season during the first half. ‘Ville held the Rams to just 27 first-half points, while scoring 22 of their own to keep the game within five heading into the second. The Rams' offensive proved to be too much down the stretch though, outscoring the Marauders 29-22 in the final two quarters of play. Beeman led the Rams with 19 points, while Lister scored 14 to lead 'Ville.
