ABOUT THE GAME

  • Men's soccer is set to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play against Lock Haven on Wednesday night. The match is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. on Pucillo Field.
  • Millersville is currently 4-0 on the season, and ranked No. 12 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. This is the highest the Marauders have been ranked this season, jumping twelve spots from their previous ranking (No. 24).
  • Lock Haven is 1-1-1 thus far into their 2021 campaign, with a win against a common opponent, Goldey-Beacom. The Bald Eagles dropped a home match before that to No. 16 Gannon, 4-1. They started their season off with a draw at California (Pa.).
  • Millersville has reached the postseason in five consecutive seasons, and every season but one since Widdowson took over the program in 2007. The PSAC preseason poll, voted on by the league's coaches, placed Millersville at No. 2 in the East. Lock Haven came in at No. 4 in the preseason poll, just ahead of Bloomsburg (5), Shippensburg (6), and Shepherd (7).
Our focus will be on improving from today and working on the areas we struggled. We know we can do better in several areas, so we will focus there and be ready to go again with two more very tough games next week.
Steve Widdowson, Millersville head coach

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville has dominated the opposition this far into the season. The Marauders lead their opponents in every offensive category, goals (10-2), shots (70-21), shots on goal (37-11), and assists (7-1) are some of the more notable categories.
  • Spencer Shortt has gotten off to a hot start, ranking top three in the PSAC in points (8), goals (3), and shots on goal (11). Shortt ranks in the top 10 in assists (2) and shots (15).
  • Anthony Calamia has also played well, leading the Marauders in shots (18) and netting two goals himself through four games. The redshirt junior ranks top three in the PSAC in both shots, and shots on goal (10).
  • Defender, Aaron Maynard, who is part of a defensive that has only allowed two goals, was awarded PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the week last week for his efforts against Goldey-Beacom and Seton Hill. He'll look to build on that heading into PSAC East play.
  • Goalkeeper Brady Hochman has been lights out for the Marauders, only allowing two goals through three solid starts. Bobby Bosch was also stellar in his shutout start against Goldey-Beacom.

SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
