Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University men's soccer team fought hard against a tough East Stroudsburg team but the Warriors bested the Marauders 1-0 in a conference game on damp Sunday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

The Marauders moved to 2-2-4 and 0-1-1 in conference play while the Warriors advanced to 5-2 and 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• The Warriors held a majority of the possession early as they racked up five shots in the opening 18 minutes of the game.
• Both teams had some scoring chances but the Marauders could not find the back of the net. The Warriors were strong on the attack and found the lone goal in the game. A low corner kick by Jordan Ellison went through the defense and Mateo Laredo-Fernandez chipped the ball in in the 50th minute.
• The opportunities for the Marauders were mostly in the first half. Those chances began with a senior Chase Flickinger free kick that found freshman Spencer Shortt's foot but rocketed high in the 19th minute.
• Jaxson Burns crossed the ball from left side over the defense to right side where Ethan Woods' header was saved in the 82nd minute.

HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON QUOTES
• 'Extremely disappointing. We had a lot of the ball and moved it well at times, but we had far too many easy turnovers and our attack was very blunt. We didn't cause them enough problems in the attacking third and that showed in the fact that we got shutout."
• "Kyle Finsterbush and Nathan Maynard were very good today. They kept the ESU center forward in check who was very dangerous. Anthony Calamia did well off the bench and showed good ball control. Ethan Woods also did well on the ball in a few different positions. Nikolas Provazzo and McClain Smith also worked hard in the center midfield. Overall, the work in the defensive and middle third was good. It was the attacking third that we were left wanting."
• "We need to keep the ball more efficiently and find ways to create more scoring opportunities. We will use tomorrow to recover then hit the practice field on Tuesday to work on that and get ready for Lock Haven."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Flickinger had three of the seven total shots for the Marauders.
• Goalkeeper Darian McCauley saved four shots while his counterpart, Will Boerema, earned his third shutout and totaled two saves.

NOTES
• Both squads were aggressive with their play with nine fouls against Millersville and the Warriors had 12.
• The Marauders recorded their sixth one-goal game.
• The Warriors fired 10 shots with five on goal while the Marauders had seven and two on goal.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 hosting Lock Haven in another PSAC match-up at 7 p.m.
