GAME OVERVIEW
• The PSAC Playoff race got another wrinkle with Millersville's upset win at Kutztown earlier in the week. The Marauders usurped the third spot in the PSAC East division from the Golden Bears, and the team now has the opportunity to clinch a home playoff game with a win over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles. Millersville could then clinch the third seed by either earning a win at second-seeded East Stroudsburg on Feb. 24 or depend on Kutztown to lose at least one of its next three games.
• However, the Marauders are not focused on hypotheticals. Head Coach Mary Fleig and her squad are determined to control their own destiny. The Marauders proved that as they went into Keystone Arena and handed the Golden Bears only their third home loss of the season.
• Millersville needs to bring that same determination back into Pucillo Gymnasium and earn some revenge over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles who beat the Marauders just a month ago. The Marauders were bested 84-86 at Thomas Fieldhouse as the Bald Eagles set the three point arch on fire with 13-19 made shots from downtown. Millersville ranks 15th in the entire PSAC at defending the three point shot, and the team will need to close out shooters quickly to extinguish another long range clinic from Lock Haven.
• Playing into Millersville's hands is Lock Haven's likelihood to turn the ball over. The Marauders rank eighth in the conference in both steals and turnover margin, and Lock Haven ranks 16th in the conference in turnover margin. Millersville won the turnover battle last time out against Lock Haven while also outscoring Lock Haven in points off turnovers.
• Saturday's game also marks Senior Day in Pucillo Gymnasium. As the Millersville basketball program celebrates Senior Alayah Hall, they also have the opportunity to maybe witness some history. Hall averages 17 points per game on the season, and she currently sits at 984 career points. If Hall scores her season average against Lock Haven, she would be the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points.
• Prior to warm ups beginning for the women's game, the Millersville women's basketball program will host its annual Nicole Schneider Bomberger alumni game at 10 a.m. The game will be held in honor of former Marauder player Nicole Schneider Bomberger who died of breast cancer last summer. The team will sell t-shirts and accept donations with all the proceeds going to the Nicole's Fight Scholarship Fund which will benefit Bomberger's children.
SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
• The Bald Eagles have struggled away from home this season as they sport an 0-11 record away from Thomas Fieldhouse. However, Lock Haven has already beaten Millersville this season and will bring that confidence to Pucillo Gymnasium.
• Only one Lock Haven player currently averages double-digit scoring. That player, of course, is sophomore Rileigh Devine who's hot shooting against Millersville propelled the Bald Eagles to 86 points and a victory. In 31 minutes on the hardwood, Devine scored 30 points on 11-13 shooting and 8-9 from the three point arch. Simply put, Millersville cannot let Divine replicate that performance again.
• Without a dominant individual offensive performance assisting the team's defensive efforts, Lock Haven has struggled during the season. The Bald Eagles rank second-to-last in the conference with a -13.5 scoring margin. Lock Haven averages 61.8 points per game while it concedes 75.3 points per game to its opponents.
• Millersville must stay aggressive on the boards. Lock Haven can grind its opponents down and earn extra possessions with its dominant rebounding performances. Currently, the Bald Eagles rank second in the conference with 41.5 rebounds per game while they rank first in the conference with 14.9 offensive rebounds per game.
