GAME OVERVIEW
•The Marauders snagged the third spot in the PSAC East standings from Kutztown after defeating the Golden Bears 85-58 this past Saturday. Millersville never trailed against Kutztown while putting together a 26-15 second quarter that ended with an 8-0 Millersville run that created an insurmountable 15 point lead heading into halftime. Efficient shooting coupled with forced turnovers built Millersville's lead to 30 at one point in the second half. Head Coach Mary Fleig turned to her second unit comprising of underclassmen to get valuable experience and maintain the lead that never dipped below 25 points.
• Millersville will look to strengthen their position in the PSAC East while also earning some revenge over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles. The last time these familiar rivals played each other, Lock Haven stole a double overtime shoot out despite Millersville holding leads in both the fourth quarter and first overtime period. It was a humbling loss that almost sunk Millersville's opportunity at the postseason last year. The Marauders will look to play tighter defense and prevent another outburst from Rileigh Devine. Despite only being a freshman, Devine torched the Marauders with 30 points on 10-14 shooting and 8-9 from the free throw line in only 27 minutes on the court. Devine currently ranks as the leading scorer for the Bald Eagles this season and will require the attention of the Millersville guards.
•Alayah Hall lead the Marauders with 16 points in that double overtime loss. Hall is used to leading the Marauders in scoring in her senior year as she averages 16.5 points per game and 19 points per conference game. The guard currently ranks ninth in the conference in scoring. Hall has been on fire recently as she has scored 20 or more points in three out of her last four including a new season-high 24 points against Kutztown. Hall is leaving it out on the court as she has scored in double-figures in 13 straight games and 14 of Millersville's 15 games this season.
•Millersville ranks in the top half of the conference in most offensive categories thanks to efforts by not only Hall but fellow starters redshirt junior Kendra Bamberger, junior Jade Farquhar and sophomore Courtney Dimoff. Bamberger averages 13.2 points per conference game on 45 percent shooting. The forward set a new career-high 19 points against West Chester this season. Farquhar is on the cusp of averaging double figures in conference games as she currently averages 9.9 per game. She set a new career-high 24 points against Shippensburg. Dimoff has scored in double figures in eight games this season and has scored in double figures in two straight games on 50 percent shooting.
SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
• Lock Haven has struggled this season after being edged out by Millersville for the final PSAC East playoff spot last season. The Bald Eagles currently rank last in both the PSAC East and the conference overall after starting the season 2-13 and 1-10 in the PSAC.
• The Bald Eagles excel on the glass. The team currently ranks third in the conference with 41.5 rebounds per game. Even better, Lock Haven ranks first in the conference with 15.1 offensive rebounds per game. The Bald Eagles are capable of earning second and third chances on offense which can cause problems for teams not playing as diligently on the boards. This presents a challenge to the Marauders as they currently rank in the middle of the conference in every rebounding statistic.
• Rileigh Devine leads the Bald Eagles in scoring. The sophomore guard averages 9.2 points per game while also leading the team in field goal attempts. Patient defense is necessary against Devine considering she is shooting 86 percent from the free throw line and wants to supplement her scoring with trips to the charity stripe.
• Kayla Henderson and Ahnera Parker rank tied for second on the team with 8.8 points per game each. Both players are capable scorers that come off the bench to provide a change of pace for Head Coach Jennifer Smith's offense. Furthermore, both players are efficient shooters, and they are averaging over 45 percent shooting from the field.
