Strong second half propels Marauders on the road

Mansfield, Pennsylvania - A 13-1 run to end the game lifted the Millersville women's basketball team to a 56-49 victory over Mansfield Wednesday. The win marks the second of the year over the Mounties and avenges a road loss from last season. Three Marauders scored in double figures and were led by Celeste Robinson's 17. Aunjel Van Bakle added 13 points while Courtney Hinnant scored 11 and grabbed seven rebounds.
Despite Mansfield dominating most team statistic categories, Millersville was more efficient from the field shooting 33 percent to the Mounties' 30 percent. The Marauders had 11 assists to Mansfield's nine and the bench outscored the Mounties' bench 11-6 in the victory.
Millersville took care of the ball while pressuring Mansfield and creating 22 turnovers into which they converted 20 points. The Marauders were outscored by eight points in the second quarter but responded to out-score Mansfield 31-16 in the second half.
Mansfield carried their momentum from the second quarter into the third, extending the lead to 10 when Brielle Kelly scored in the paint. Aunjel Van Brakle would hit back-to-back buckets including a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half and the Marauders would trail by just four going into the fourth.
Van Brakle hit another three coming out of the break as Millersville had all the momentum in its favor. With 7:06 to play, Mansfield held a two-point lead when Kendra Bamberger hit a jumper to tie the game at 45 and sparked the 13-1 Millersville run which included six free throws and a Robinson 3-pointer to help seal the Marauder victory.
Millersville improves its record to 9-12 (7-9 PSAC) and remains on the road, traveling to East Stroudsburg to face the Warriors at 1 p.m. Saturday.
