1/11/2017 5:47:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Millersville, Pennsylvania - Despite a double-double from Celeste Robinson, the Millersville women's basketball team fell to Indiana (Pa.) 61-47 Wednesday. Millersville was outscored in three of the four quarters despite shooting over 42 percent from the field. The Marauders were done in by the size of the Crimson Hawks as Brittany Robinson and Megan Smith each registered 17 points and combined for 12 rebounds.
Celeste Robinson led Millersville with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Jade Farquhar added 12 but no other Marauder scored more than six points. Brittany Robinson was a force down low, going 7-11 from the field and added six blocks in the effort for IUP.
Lauren Wolosik got things going for IUP, nailing a three but Celeste Robinson would respond seconds later with a layup. The two sides went back and forth until the Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 12-8 lead. Once again, Robinson would answer as she drove baseline, hitting a jumper and getting fouled in the process. Robinson would make the only free throw of the quarter for Millersville (1-5) and pull the Marauders to within one point at the end of the quarter.
Carolyn Appleby hit the first shot of the second quarter to give the Crimson Hawks a three-point lead. Minutes later, Aunjel Van Brakle would hit another layup to make the score 18-17 IUP. Brittany Robinson would start to establish herself down low, scoring six consecutive points and giving the Crimson Hawks a 24-17 lead. After a Courtney Dimoff three and a Courtney Hinnant layup, the Marauders were within three points, but IUP would outscore Millersville 7-4 and take a six point lead into halftime.
Celeste Robinson would score the first points of the third, but Wolosik would immediately answer with a three and put IUP up by seven. Brittany Robinson remained a force, hitting a pair of free throws and following up with a layup to give the Crimson Hawks an eight point advantage. Moments later, Appleby would drive the lane and score while getting fouled to give IUP an 11-point lead.
The buckets continued to fall for IUP, making the score 54-40 after Brittany Robinson scored her 14th point of the night. Millersville tried to mount a comeback, but IUP answered every time and coasted to the 14-point victory.
Millersville now drops to 6-9 (4-6 PSAC) overall and will hit the road Saturday to face Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
