Cheyney, Pennsylvania - Four Marauders scored touchdown as Millersville football rolled to a 34-6 win at Cheyney Saturday.
Millersville (2-7, 1-5 PSAC East) won for the first time since the season opener by totaling a season-high 313 yards passing and 431 yards of total offense--the second-highest total of the season. J.J. Paige connected on 18-of-35 passes, hitting eight different receivers. It was his second career 300-yard game and a career-high for yards. He boosted his career completions total to 321, moving into fifth place in the Millersville record books. Zac Slonac's 43-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter was the first of his career. Phil Overton, Sheldon Snell and Tyrone Gibson each scored a rushing touchdown. Millersville out-gained Cheyney 431-181 and limited the Wolves to 29 yards rushing.
The scoring started quickly for the Marauders. Cheyney attempted an on-side kick to start the game, but a penalty set the Marauders' offense in advantageous field position at the Cheyney 42. On fourth-and-seven from the Cheyney 26, Paige found Christian Kemp for 21 yards. Overton slashed his way to the end zone from five yards out on the next snap.
Evan Stahl booted the first of two field goals two drives later, connecting from 30 yards with 1:56 left in the first quarter. Millersville built the lead to 17-0 six plays into the second quarter on Paige's hook-up with Slonac. That lead remained for rest of the first half. Cheyney finished the first 30 minutes with just seven yards passing.
On the first possession of the third quarter, Paige hit Kevin Wiggins for 48 yards to the Cheyney 1. Snell plunged in on the next play to build the lead to 24-0. Stahl added a 33-yard field goal 1:27 into the fourth, and after Cheyney's lone score of the game, Gibson capped a seven-play, 77-yard drive with a one-yard run. Gibson logged five carries on the drive including a long of 22.
Gibson led the Marauders on the ground, totaling 47 yards on six totes. Overton totaled 47 yards on 13 carries.
Not only did Stahl go 2-for-2 in field goals, he averaged 45 yards per punt on four punts. His long of 62 was his second-longest of the season. P.J. Santos intercepted a pass, bringing his season total to four and his career total to 11. That moves him into a tie for eighth all-time at Millersville. Sean Dugan's nine tackles led the team and boosted his season total to 91 with two games remaining. He is looking to be the second Marauder since 2003 to total 100 tackles in a season.
