ABOUT THE GAME
- Millersville hosts No. 3 Kutztown for the annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 17. Millersville experienced another close call a week ago, suffering its third one-score loss of the season despite totaling a season-high 27 points. Kutztown, winner of the last three PSAC titles and national semifinalist in 2025, has been a steamroller in 2026. All six wins have come by double figures, the offense has scored 45 or more points four times, and the defense has allowed more than 20 points just once. Kutztown has outscored its last two opponents 115-7.
- Since annual records started being kept in 1972, Millersville is 23-27-1 in Homecoming games. Kutztown has been the opponent six times but not since 2009. Millersville is 5-1 against Kutztown in those games. Current Millersville head coach Drew Folmar went 3-1 as Millersville's starting quarterback in Homecoming games. The one loss came against Kutztown in his freshman season of 1997 by a 24-21 final. Folmar has an extensive history with Kutztown. He served as an offensive coordinator for a PSAC Championship team in 2011 and two NCAA playoff teams and was the head coach for the program for one season.

GAME STORYLINES
- Millersville's young skill players continue to shine. Last week against Shippensburg, freshman Kyreek Bradshaw made two touchdown catches and Jayden Walters also caught a touchdown pass. Sophomore Caileb Howse set career highs with eight receptions for 81 yards. Millersville completed a season high 36 passes for 343 yards in the game, and Ryan Zeltt connected with eight different receivers. Walters is now tied for ninth in the PSAC in touchdown receptions with four. The freshman duo has seven of the team's eight receiving touchdowns. Howse is in his first season playing the position after coming to Millersville as a quarterback, and he leads the team with 18 receptions. Isaac Sines is also finding a groove. After catching two passes for 24 yards in the first three games, Sines has totaled 13 catches for 107 in the last two.
- Running back Mekhi Ashby has seen heavy duty the last three weeks. After totaling a career high 126 yards on 32 carries against West Chester in week four, Ashby has added 29 carries for 158 yards in the last two games. Against Shippensburg last Saturday, Ashby recorded a season long run of 45 yards, scored his second touchdown in three games, and he caught a career high five passes. Ashby has caught at least two passes in each of the last four games. Ashby ranks fourth in the PSAC in carries (94) and seventh in yards (398). If he continues at his 66 yards-per-game average, Ashby will finish with the most yards by a Marauder since 2022.
- Linebacker Bryce Beutler is averaging nearly 10 tackles per game and ranks second in the PSAC with 59 tackles. He has tallied 11 tackles four times this season. Sophomore Antonio Johnson is tied for seventh in the PSAC with six passes defended.
- Kutztown is the PSAC's most balanced team, ranking second in the conference in scoring offense (46.5) and total offense (432.8) while ranking first in scoring defense (15.7) and totaled defense (267.8). Quarterback Judd Novak completes 66.7% of his passes and rarely puts the ball in jeopardy, totaling 12 touchdowns to two interceptions. His 168.6 passing efficiency rating ranks second in the PSAC. Jaedyn Stewart and Craig Miller share the rushing duties. While Stewart has twice as many carries, he has just 10 more yards than Miller, who averages 10.0 yards per carry and has four touchdowns. Stewart leads the team with six. Novak distributes the ball well in the passing game. Ten different receivers have caught a touchdown passes. Four players have between 13 and 18 receptions. The offense is efficient, converting 67.7% of third downs. The next best team in the PSAC is Lock Haven at 48.6.
- Kutztown's defense has allowed the fewest first downs in the conference at 16.5. It's been nearly impossible to run against the Golden Bears as they allow just 2.2 yards per carry and 57 yards per game. Shepherd's 98 yards on 33 carries was the best performance against the defense all season, and it is a sound defense. The longest rush it has allowed all season is 17 yards.
SERIES HISTORY
- Millersville leads the all-time series 57-38-3. The series dates back to 1903 when Millersville won the first meeting 16-6. Millersville went 8-0-2 in the first 10 meetings before Kutztown scored a 7-6 win in 1932. From 1981-1993, Millersville won 13 in a row, but Kutztown is currently riding the series' longest winning streak with 15 consecutive victories. Millersville's last win over Kutztown was a 41-35 double overtime thriller on Homecoming in 2009. Folmar was Kutztown's offensive coordinator in that game. Jamal Smith tied a school record in the game with four touchdown catches. At the end of regulation, Kutztown botched the snap and hold on a PAT try that would have given it a one-point lead. It was one of three PAT failures for Kutztown in the game.
- Millersville has not scored more than 21 points against Kutztown since 2010. In 2022 and 2023, the game was decided by one score (20-13 and 17-12), but Kutztown has outscored Millersville by 30.5 points per game in the last two meetings. Last season at Kutztown, the Golden Bears led 7-0 after one quarter and then scored 22 points in the second to pull away. Tommy Hunsicker totaled 38 yards rushing and 100 yards passing on 8 of 17 tries. Ryan Zeltt went 7 for 10 for 18 yards.
