Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team scored two unanswered goals which propelled it to a 2-1 victory over Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon at Egli Field.
Slippery Rock (4-2, 2-1 PSAC) came into Saturday's matchup winners of three out of its last four games and began the game as the aggressors in an extremely physical match. The Rock was able to get on the board in the 32nd minute when Stephen McConahy whipped the ball across the goal where Peter Boylan finished it off. The goal marked the first of the season for Boylan.
Minutes later, forward Jaime Vazquez earned a penalty kick opportunity after a Slippery Rock defender fouled a Marauder within the box. Vazquez converted on the penalty kick for his fifth goal on the season. The Tulpehocken product now has 12 points--the second most in the PSAC--off of five goals and two assists.
The score remained 1-1 into the halftime break. From a statistical standpoint, Millersville had the better first half as it held an 8-4 advantage in shots.
Marcus Frangakis scored the game-winner in the 64th minute. Frangakis earned prime positioning at the top of the box where he ripped a shot that beat Slippery Rock keeper Kyle Hoffer.
