GAME OVERVIEW
• Fresh off its 18th-consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance, the Millersville women's basketball team was selected to finish fourth in the PSAC's Eastern Division by the league's coaches. Carly Gallagher was selected to the East Preseason All-PSAC team after she was named All-PSAC East Second Team at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season. West Chester was picked to win the east with four first-place votes, Bloomsburg was behind them with five first-place votes and Shippensburg rounded out the top three. In the west, defending conference champion Edinboro was picked to win its division with seven first-place votes, Gannon came in at second with the final two first-place votes and California (Pa.) concluded the top three.
• The team returns 11 players including 10 letterwinners, four of which were regular starters a year ago. However, the fifth starter in All-PSAC East Second Team performer Celeste Robinson will be redshirting for the 2014-15 season due to injury. Joining the returners are five freshmen including a pair of 1,000-point scorers in Alayah Hall and Alexis Yanief. Hall set Dover Area High School's career points record with 1,619 and Yanief averaged 15.5 points per game throughout her high school career.
• Millersville will undoubtedly be led by redshirt senior, Carly Gallagher, who is one of three seniors for the upcoming campaign and led the Marauders in scoring at 14.7 points per contest. The East Stroudsburg, Pa. native was also first on the team in total points (383), field goal attempts (291), 3-point field goal attempts (106), free throw attempts (172), free throws made (123), free throw percentage (.715), was second in field goals made (113), 3-pointers made (34), and assists per game (2.5).
• Also playing their final season in the Black and Gold are Alexis Martin and Sabina Mehmedovic. Martin appeared in 23 games and started 21 of them as a redshirt junior and was one of the team's best rebounders as she was second in total rebounds (151), total rebounds per game (6.6), fourth in defensive rebounds (95), and second in offensive rebounds (56). Mehmedovic was one of only two Marauders to appear in all 27 games and was usually the first to come off the bench for head coach Mary Fleig.
• Joining Gallagher and Martin as starters coming back are redshirt junior and long-range threat, Shelby Reimer and junior Yasmin Cooper. Reimer appeared in 27 games, and started 20 of them while converting 44 3-pointers in 103 attempts, which was good for a 42.7 percent clip. She made a triple in all but six games, made at least two of them in 13 games and was the only other Marauder to appear in all 27 games. Cooper was the team's top rebounder with 8.3 boards per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
• UVa.-Wise finished 2013-14 with an overall record of 10-17 including a 5-17 mark in the Mountain East. Kristin Kunzman enters her fourth season at the helm for the Cavaliers and earned her degree in communications from Millersville. While playing for the Marauders from 2006-08 under Mary Fleig, Kunzman was a captain, a NCAA Division II regional participant, and in 2007-08, she helped the team to an undefeated regular season conference record (12-0) as the PSAC East Division Champions. Back from last season's squad are two of the top three leading scorers including MaKenzie Cluesman who was second on the team in points per game at 11.6 and Taylor Sandidge who was right behind her in third with 11.1 points per contest. Cluesman was also the team's top rebounder as she brought down 6.9 boards per game.
• Last season, Chowan finished with a 12-16 record including a 6-10 mark in CIAA play. The Hawks lost to Johnson C. Smith 57-49 in the first round of their conference tournament. Alisha Mobley was the lone Hawk to earn Preseason All-CIAA Team honors for this season. She comes back for her junior season after leading Chowan with a team-high 13.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per contest. This season, the Hawks will rely on seven seniors, four newcomers and a core of key returners. Courtni Williams returns for the Blue and White after earning CIAA Rookie of the Year honors last season. Williams averaged 7.8 points per contest and 3.0 rebounds per game as a freshman. For 2014-15, the Hawks welcome three freshmen including Danae Cox, Dhyamond Crenshaw and Shaikeyla Jordan along with sophomore transfer Jordan Mitchell-Harmel. Mitchell-Harmel comes from Grambling University.
